Texas is the fastest growing state in the union. It's no surprise that crimes have increased. Crime rates, however, have decreased. So there are less bad guys per 100,000 but many more 100,000s.

With those statistics, Austin and the Rio Grande Valley would not be on my list of desirable locations.

Eh, not really enough info for that. If Austin had 10 the year before and Houston had 100, then it's only be roughly 5 more in austin while 8 more in Houston... on top of the already horrible 10 to 1 ratio. Just sayin'
