Death by Sudden Deceleration

Guy tried to drive his car off a parking garage in Houston this morning. When he wasn't able to get the car past the cables, he jumped.

Houston Chronicle article - http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/met ... 11308.html

My daughter works down there, and was one of the "onlookers" mentioned in the article that notified the police. I think she saw him try to drive the car off. Fortunately, she left before he jumped...

Here's a link for video (after the fact) - http://www.chron.com/video/?129177261001

Hate to think how bad it would have been if he had succeeded with the car...

Ban parking garages.

If it saves just one life, it'll be worth it...

Seriously, my condolences to those nearby that had to witness that.

Poor guy, first he goes through whatever led him to kill himself, then he works up the nerve to do it and his car gets stuck.

I was listening to everything play out on the police radio. A taxi inspector was checking a cab on the street directly below when the car crashed through the "wall" of the garage. After he crawled out of the car, the gentleman stood on the edge of the garage long enough for HPD to clear the street below. He jumped less than 5 minutes after exiting his vehicle.

This thread's "Subject" makes me think of this one:

Q. Did you know that when a parachute doesn't open,
it's not the fall that kills the jumper?

A. What kills him is that sudden stop at the end. :-)

Q. When a bug hits your windshield, what's the last thing to go through its mind?

A. It's butt.

My daughter also works there and took pictures of the car hanging half way out of the parking garage.
She also saw the man on the ground. :???:

There have been two other suicides at that same building in the past couple of years.

Maybe we should be more worried about parking garages than range rental firearms to prevent suicide.
