Westport, Massachusetts (southeast edge of nowhere): A 53-year-old man allegedly shot a goose in an urban neighborhood. Police searched his apartment and charged him with 17 or 18 felonies, mostly weapons offenses.

Massachusetts!
I was sitting in a Logan International Airport bar awaiting my flight back to St. Louis when Teddy Kennedy drove off into Chappaquidick pond with his passenger. I didn't leave anything in Massachusetts then; ergo, I have no reason to go back now.

Shooting a goose out of season without a license without state or federal stamps is pretty serious charges. but this guy will have to serve 1 year mandatory for lack of firearms ID card. (maybe 1 for each gun?) He did have a RI license. I guess I can't hold much hope for them recognizing my CHL in the near future.
What I don't understand is what shooting a goose in the back has to do with anything?

Police then secured a search warrant for Dalton’s apartment and found seven firearms, four shotguns and three rifles. None of the guns were secure, according to police, and Dalton did not have a license to possess them. In one room, under some newspapers, police found a dead goose that had been shot inn the back.
Perhaps the Boston Herald should worry about hiring reporters who can spell, and proof-readers who aren't asleep on the job.
But all that aside, was it a Pit Goose, or an attack-trained Goose?
I saw a whole herd of geese rummaging around next to a pond I drove past on my way to church last Monday night. The use of "herd" is deliberate. These were wild, but they were far too big and fat to be a "flock" of anything. No. They were a thundering herd. All 5 or 6 of them.
I will have my gun out "just in case" the next time I drive past that pond. It doesn't seem right, somehow, to be in such mortal danger on one's way to sanctification.

The goose was fleeing and posed no danger to the shooter.

Sadly, it seems like most newspapers these days have decided that there's no need for competence now that we have spill chuckers.
