I bought a P7M8 over 10 years ago in the $700 range (police trade in) thinking the price would go up. I guess I'll have to wait a while longer.
What is the difference between a P7 and mine that is marked P7M8?

There are several differences between the P7 PSP and P7M8, also there is a price difference ! Most P7M8s go for closer to or over 1k. The M8 has the ambi thumb mag release, the elongated trigger guard so you can shoot with gloved hand and the heat shield at the top of the trigger guard to keep you from burning your finger if you shoot fast. The gas piston gets the frame over the trigger guard VERY hot if you shoot rapidly and a lot.

Thanks. I guess I am glad the heat shield is there. That gun gets hot enough as it is.
Now that I compare with the picture on the web site, I can see that the trigger guard on mine is a little longer and there is a 2nd piece across the top above the trigger.

Not wanting to kidnap the thread or anything (I mean, HK P7s...yum!), but I've seen the same problem in the Walther PP/PPK. Shoot about 50 rounds and the heat definitely starts to get uncomfortable in the trigger area. It definitely makes you think more about something that seems so mundane as thermodynamics. Oddly enough, it's the same kind of reason why "caseless ammunition" guns haven't really come to fruition yet -- the cases themselves transfer a significant amount of heat away from the barrel, allowing it to stay cool.
ok, back to P7 chatter :-)
