It seems that this crap is happening a lot lately. How can you call yourself an American if you do not want people to fly Old Glory?

Who wants to bet that the complex has a rule against anything but white or off-white window coverings? That's how it's been in every complex I've lived. Yeah they should enforce it consistently if they're going to enforce it at all, but didn't he agree not to do that when he moved in?

In my neighborhood in Houston, a pole in the ground is not allowed, but poles sticking out from the house or tree is O.K. However, I see one large pole and wonder how he gets away with it. Not knowing the restrictions when you move in is not an excuse, in my view.

Same here. We do have one or two with poles that were grandfathered in though. The original small development was bought out, the surrounding land bought, and a homeowners association established. Those that had poles or other things that were now not allowed got to keep them.
It's no excuse especially if it's a mandatory association. If the Realtor didn't tell them that's different but then their problem is with the Realtor. When we signed the papers one of them was notification of there being a mandatory HOA.

I am currently building a website for an HOA, but I would never willingly live in one.

Actually if you read the article you will find they don't want the flag taped to the window. You will also find that they are offering him a larger flag that can be displayed properly outside of his apartment. Florida law permits a renter to display a flag within a certain size limit as long as it is displayed in a respectful manner. In my opinion the best course of action for the renter is to accept the larger flag and display it in a more respectful manner, take down the taped flag and store it respectfully.

You're trapped in an HOA? From your photos of Mom
shooting her .380, and your other range photos, my perception
of your property was that you lived on a high-acre rural tract.
If your HOA allows outdoor shooting of pistols, I guess you live
in a pretty good HOA!! :-)

Same here. But never again.
Everything I have to say about any HOA is banned by forum rules....
