I haven't found anyplace in the Dallas area that has what I would consider a great selection. Most places only carry one or two brands, usually Galco, Don Hume, or Blackhawk, and the even the selection of those usually isn't very good. That said, Cheaper Than Dirt in Ft. Worth probably has one of the largest selections of holsters I've seen in one place in the area.

Bass Pro Shop has a reasonably good selection, although nothing that compares to online sources like LA Police Gear.

The Bullet Trap in Plano is a Galco dealer. Also, DFW Gun Range on Mockingbird carries a fairly good supply.

Long ago I accepted that if you're looking for a holster for a 1911, a glock, one of the common police duty pistols like the full-size Beretta/Sig/Smith/Glock (already mentioned), or maybe an S&W J-frame revolver, then you might find a holster you like for one of those. But even then it's almost an accident when you stumble across it rather than deciding one day you're going to find a holster and actually accomplishing that.

Stores just can't stock 'em. If you look at how many different models a single manufacturere might make, and multiply that by how many differnent pistols for which they make them, it would take a place the size of a lot of gun stores just to showcase a good selection from a couple of popular brands. Go to an SAS shoe store. They have a few dozen models, most of which come in several color, and they have most of them in every common size. And the store is the size of a typical mom and pop gun store. A holster shop woud be something like that, no room for ammo or hunting accessories, or much of anything else.

I find holster ideas from internet forums such as this. I look at the manufacturers' websites. I get a first-hand look at some manufacturers' general quality by looking at their products in stores. I look for more reviews online. Once I've decided exactly what I want, I order it.

We should have a get-together where everyone brings all their holsters and lets everyone else see them and try them. People could sell off any they don't need any longer if they wanted. Maybe an already scheduled match or range day would be a good time? I'd be there and hoping someone had a small shoulder holster for me to try. :thumbs2:

I could bring homemade sweets if it would help. ;-)

There will be a gun show at the Dr. Pepper arena in Frisco Sat & Sun. You may be able to find something there.

Thank you all for the help. I will be at that gun show because I want to buy another gun anyway. I'll check bass pro shop sometime today.

I do this for our CHL classes and for my women handgun classes. SRVA and I put together large bag full of all kind of carry options for our students to try. It really helps them figure out what type of carry will work for them.

Your idea could be expanded in to a clinic at the next TX CHL Forum day! Send Charles a PM.

Definitely a GREAT idea! I know that when I was searching for a quality IWB holster (in the DFW area) that my choices were limited. I could find all types of "hunting" type OWB holsters and a plethora of fabric-style holsters but very few leather holsters. For my Kimber I went with a Bullman (custom/order - waited OVER a year but it was worth it!). I ordered it after trying on a buddy's Bullman (same holster model but for a different gun). I'm a FIRM believer in trying *before* buying.

DPSS in downtown Dallas has a good selection and is public friendly. You might also check C&G in dallas or Winchester Shooting Gallery in Fort Worth

I visited DPSS over the weekend. They've had trouble with a roof leak and their showroom was closed. They didn't know when it would reopen.

Thank you k6gixx! I went by there today and bought a IWB holster. I plan on going back this Friday for a OWB holster and a belt. It was cheaper than some of online places.

You could try Ray's on Singleton Blvd in Dallas. I found a IWB holster for my PT145 there. You may have to look around for a while, most of the holsters aren't on display, they are in drawers and boxes.

I heard about that place. I might have to go check it out Friday.
