This administration just infuriates me. What do you guys think of this bill. I believe we need to shoot this down every way we can.

Actually, I would almost support this bill because it would guarantee that liberal democrats will not be elected for the next 150 years, and it can be repealed in 2011 before it is enacted, so it won't really affect anyone.

It would truly be ironic if our first African-American president were the one to re-institute Slavery.

Switzerland has complusary service. Every male has to do four years but they are then get to keep their rifle for life.

The biggest difference is that this affects every citizen and is on the whim of the president.

This would be bad for the democrats as the miltary typically instills traditional values.

Basically, it just re-institutes the draft, but adds a civilian component that supports homeland security. Unfortunately, it gives much too much power to the President. With this President, we'd end up with civilians required to serve two years handing out candy to illegals crossing the border. If it were just a bill limiting it to military service, I'd be all for it. Here's the bill:

Do you think This is just political grandstanding to point out the fact that more people would be against the wars if there was a draft, as opposed to an all-volunteer force. Notice how there are no cosponsors – there’s no expectation that this bill will even leave committee or reach a vote. Congressmen do this sort of thing all the time, just look at half of Alan Grayson’s bills.

One of the comments mentioned that Charles Rangel has introduced this bill before. It got no cosponsors, was generally ignored, and died in committee. That's probably what will happen to it again. I don't think it's anything to get too worked up about at this time.

I'm as opposed to the current administration as much as anyone, but this has been Rangel's position for many, many years. He has been one of the few, perhaps only, pro-draft Democrat in Congress for a long time. The key here though is the "civilian" component, and the broad scope of the powers of the President. There's no doubt it would be grossly abused by the current administration, where EVERYTHING is an EMERGENCY.

Can I spend my two years turning the politicians who vote for this into plant food?

Charles Rangel does this over and over again. He believes (with the evidence completely contrary to his beliefs) that blacks serve disproportionately in the military because they have fewer options coming out of high school. So he keeps introducing bills to re-institute the draft to even the playing field. He's a corrupt idiot, but then he has plenty of company.

The chances of the bill making it out of committee are nil.

Don't even get me started about the lies liberals tell about our military.
