Mexican President Calls on U.S. to Stop Arms Flow - again...

A recent address by Calderon in Bogota, where he suggested that the solution to Mexico's violent crime problems is to make the US citizens as equally defenseless as the Mexican citizens currently are;

His logic is laughable, if it weren't for the fact that many Mexican citizens actually believe him.

I must have overlooked his call to make US citizens defenseless in the article. I did however see his suggestion that we stop the flow of arms across the border.
He failed to mention the flow of people and narcotics across the border going north, but our wonderful economy is finally restricting that flow for the time being.

Perhaps we can get Calderon to grant free citizenship to the ones in the US that believe him, so long as they renounce their citizenship here? Seems like that would solve part of the problem.

And lets be honest, if he was serious about stopping the massive influx of guns into Mexico (because let's face it, we're awash in fully automatic weapons here), he'd be gladly participating in building a wall along our border...

I have to agree with you on this one...seems like a petty attempt to deflect his problems onto the US. Build it up, keep the "flow of weapons into Mexico" and maybe we can keep the flow of drugs out of the US.

Insane.

Sounds like he should be the one wanting to seal the border, to keep all the evil American guns out of his low crime, non corrupt country.

I guess he doesn't want to call attention to the fact that one eighth of the Mexican army deserts with their small arms every year and most go to work for the cartels.

Now that's an inconvenient truth.

It's simple logic. President Calderon has consistently argued for gun control in the US as a way to stop the supposed flow of arms going south. Of course the argument is completely bogus, because fully automatic AK-47s, RPGs, anti-tank missles and Russian hand grenades are being smuggled in to Mexico through Central America, especially Guatemala. Unless Mexico is willing to do something about those sources, completely disarming the US (as Mexico has done to its law-abiding citizens) would accomplish little to nothing except to strip US citizens of their rights.

As the NRA has pointed out the claim that weapons seized in Mexico are being traced back to the US is true but those weapons traced represent a very small percentage of the weapons being seized. For some reason, Mexico chooses not to submit guns to the ATF for tracing in the majority of cases. (Imply whatever you will from that.) Of the handful that they do submit, 87% are traced back to the US. This means that fully 13% of the hand-selected weapons Mexico asks the BATFE to trace don't even come from the US (or least can't be traced back to the US).

Mexico's problem isn't smuggled arms coming from America. It's an utterly corrupted government that cannot possibly enforce the law while they are ignoring it. Clean up the government and the rest will follow.

He doesn't want to admit his own ineptitude so he has to blame someone/something else. Obama is the same way.

I was speaking solely in reference to the article itself. In and of itself it does not support the assertion that Calderon wants to make American citizens defenseless. That is an assumption based on other speeches he has made in the past that does indeed appear to be quite true.
Calderon is simply trying to make himself look good to his fellow world-Socialists and place the blame on the US in order to appease his own electorate and overlook his and his governments failures.

We have an entire federal agency devoted to patrolling the border on our side, trying to stop the things his country is illegally importing into our nation. He could devote the same sort of resources on his side if he really believes our nation is illegally importing things into his country.

Unfortunately, that is no longer true (if it ever was.) The union that represents the rank and file members of ICE just passed a unanimous vote (259-0) of no confidence for the present leadership of ICE claiming that the agency has abandoned its primary mission to pursue a political agenda of supporting amnesty, a stunning indictment of the administration.

Want to cut down on illegal guns in Mexico? Disarm the army and police. Sell the weapons to law abiding Americans and they can't be used against the poor disarmed Mexican peasants.

NBC 5 had a story tonight on gun smuggling into Mexico. Turns out there was a man in Lewisville, Gregorio Morales, who was buying guns with the assistance of an Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics undercover agent, Francisco Reyes. Gee, I wonder what the native country of those two families is? :totap: :banghead:

things are really bad when even your own Union taking stabs at you
