side mounted sling swivels

I'm new to rifles so this might be a dumb question.
I bought a 10/22 not too long ago, basic wood stock with no sling studs. I like the wood and have no interest in swapping the stock. I got an old USGI style websling at a gunshow for cheap and am wanting to mount the sling mainly for learning sling supporting shooting.
My question is this, I know I don't want to mount on the barrel band for accuracy reasons in supported shooting, plus its flimsy and I don't trust it for breaking. So I'm going to have to drill both front and back anyway. I'd like to mount the swivels on the left side, M1 style. I've got quite an affinity for the old military rifles and i'd like to design this 10/22 in that style. (Also will be buying a set of tech sights). Seems to me that since in supported shooting id be pulling to the side anyhow and being side mounted I could pull it tight when not in use and would be more tidy than if it was bottom mounted, also would stay out of the way of any high cap mags or a bipod if I was using one.
Just thought i'd post here before I had a 'wish I hadn't done that' moment. Yall see any downsides to this plan? (I've mounted a sling before on my shotgun so I know what I'm doing, I'm not going to drill into the barrel or anything like that.)
