Cannot offer much info (caught tail end of radio report yesterday) but the DPS has a new number two at the agency. Her name was reported as Cheryl McBride (phonetic) and is the first lady in that position. It was reported she will not have oversight of the troopers but she does have numerous sections/units she is responsible for, one being the CHL unit.

Ms. Cheryl MacBride

Editorial comment: Aren't we past this "first woman to do X"? Texas has had independantly elected women governors, a woman senator, women sheriffs, mayors, police chiefs, etc,, for over a decade.

Keep it on topic please.

Attempts at bathroom humor in the past have the reputation of getting several topics locked over time. This is a valuable thread. Lets work from the good end.
Thank you in advance.

Agreed. I don't care if they're the first woman, the first black, or the first Martian. I care about if the individual person is competent in the position. Period. Dividing people into racial/gender categories....divides us.

She was elected as a proxy for her husband, who had been impeached. Granted, from what I have read she was a strong character in her own right.

But still a female governor, for I can almost promise there have been male governor elected as proxy for someone else, as with all politicians, whether the people wanted another person, or whether another person was simply just running the whole thing with the politician as figurehead.
