In Dallas, a sex offender escaped from a halfway house and cut off a GPS tracking bracelet that he was wearing.

He has lengthy record of convictions for sex, violent, and property crimes.

The following link shows his mug shot. He appears to be a 30-ish stocky black man.

Police is asking not to apprehend this dangerous man, either call 911 or call upon your 1911, which ever is more convenient.

Ya know...a guy with that history wasn't going to play nice with the ankle monitor. He must have secretly laughed out loud when they strapped that thing on.
When will we stop letting these creeps out? Let out people who have done nothing violent, if we must, and put ankle monitors on them. What child will he harm next because of this?

I can think of several other things to do to people like him besides ankle bracelets....

We lived in the area and have anchored our sailboat on the Hudson River near Ossining, NY. While we lived there, I got a chance to watch a couple of hour TV special on the history of Sing Sing prison. This Wikipedia entry does not do that history justice but it is a start.

The fascinating thing about the history was the ebb and flow of groups who controlled the prison and who believed in rehabilitation versus those who made the prison into just harsh punishment.

I've come to believe that most of the horrible crimes are committed by just a handful (relatively speaking) of offenders. If you look at the rap sheets on many guys like this one, they show scores of victims but, somehow, we continue to try the "rehabilitation" route. They start out and figure that nothing really bad is going to happen to them so there is no real incentive to stop.

My wife was called for a jury trial this week of a 17 year old caught for DWI. He was in court, representing himself. The worst that was going to happen out of that trial was going to be a fine - which he doesn't have the means to pay. I figure he is another career DWI in the making and we'll be reading about the innocent lives that he takes in another year or so. There is no way that he is going to be rehabilitated from this experience.

That's correct. Half the people in prison were convicted of possession of a controlled substance. Many more are there for stuff like embezzlement, repeat shoplifting, repeat domestic abuse, or eluding pursuit at a traffic stop that should not have been a big deal.

Not to diminish the vileness of domestic abuse; but if you are not the offender's wife, girlfriend, or child, it is not going to affect you personally.

A hemp necktie would be more appropriate. Failing that, give him the keys and alarm codes to the homes of the legislators and judges who thought it was a good idea to let him out of prison.
