I received a DUI when I was 17 or 18 years old and plead to deferred adjudication. I am now 27 years old. Am I eligible to get my Texas CHL?
Thanks.

If there are no other disqualifying factors, then "yes", you are eligible.

Thanks for the reply. Should I take the class first then mail the packet provided the the Instructor or apply online first, then take the class?
Thanks again.

If your doing the online application your probably going to be better off doing that stuff before you take your class.
Online application, affidavits, they will mail the application back to you for you to include with your CHL100, fingerprints and photos.
If you take the class first and then apply online you will have to wait for them to send you your application before you can mail everything else back in.

I took the class back in October. Finally did the online application the end of May & immediately sent it in.
The only thing DPS ever sent me was my plastic.
At the end of the online application, you have an opportunity to print out a checklist of everything you need to send in. There's no need to wait for anything.

So how does the process go?
The place i'm gonna take the class says they provide DPS paperwork, finger printing, photos and notary services.
So would I apply online, then take the class, then submit the DPS paperwork, finger prints, photos and notary services, then receive my CHL?
Thanks.

Take the class first. Then your questions should be answered, and you still have the option to either submit the paper application from class or go the online route.

I didn't do the online application. I just took my class, and they provided everything. If you apply online first, you have to wait to get the paperwork from the DPS before you can mail it back in. If you take the class first, you get the paperwork and have it in your hand once the class is finished. In the long run it doesn't really matter...either way will work. It just depends on how impatient you are.
