I checked this morning and my new application status now shows "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active"

Here are the dates:
August 1 - Application started online
August 10 - Application Packet received
August 12 - CHL class taken
August 14 - Application packet returned to Austin
September 15-Application status changed from "Packet Mailed to Applicant" to "Application Processing
September 29 - Status changed to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active"

So that's 6 1/2 weeks from the day I dropped it in the mail until the license was issued. If we allow that they received it on August 18 (not completely out of line - another piece of mail to Austin was sent the same day & processed on 8/18), that's a total of 42 days, and 12 of them are weekends.

That's right - 30 working days to complete a new CHL application... isn't that some sort of record?

I would think it has got to be.
Hope my renewal is finished in a timely manner.

Congrats Mithras61! So I'm curious, where was the first place you went (or are going to go) not that you can legally carry??

Actually, I went for a walk with my wife & kids. I didn't tell any of them I had it along until we were quite far along (about a mile or so) and all of them were surprised that I was carrying. Made me happy that I had practised around the house and gotten comfortable with it. I also went over to a friends house and helped him install a battery in his Honda Pilot. I don't believe he noticed either.

When I told my family about it, I explained Longtooth's concept of it being underwear & they all got a chuckle out of that but even my 5-y.o. daughter understood.

Thanks so much to all who made these suggestions here. I am much more confident in my ability to carry and keep the weapon concealed than I was before I joined here, and I appreciate the ideas I get here on carrying. I am truly grateful.

I look forward to a long and enjoyable association.

What are you carrying? And in which style of holster?

I carry an SA 1911A1 GI .45 with a 5" barrel and a parkerized finish. I'm currently carrying IWB with my skin & a horsehide belt from thebeltman.net (nice solid belt & comfortable too) holding it in place. I'm waiting on a Tucker Gunleather The Answer so I have a more stable & reliable method of carry.

I haven't been able to find a comfortable holster anywhere locally, and Rob Longenecker assured me that their no nonsense guarantee is for real. I'm looking forward to it with great anticipation.
