Question about Governor's race...

I hope this is an OK topic for this forum....

I just have a question about the current race for Texas Governor. My area (NE Tarrant County, DFW) is absolutely inundated with TV ads for Bill White, and it has been going on for a while now, but I have yet to see even one single ad from Rick Perry. What is going on? This is a fairly conservative area, overall, but given that some statewide polling shows White nearly even with Perry, you'd think Perry would be running counter ads. But instead, I see nothing, nada, zip, bupkis.

Can someone please tell me what is going on?

Let me glom on to this, if I may. I'd also like to know which political party Mr. White is with. There is nothing in his TV ads or his yard signs that would help with this question.

I was wondering the same thing myself TAM. I've seen the ads for a while now, and just now starting to see the yard signs pop up. Nothing from Perry.

Here's a hint: as mayor of Houston, he thought illegal aliens should have more rights than law abiding citizens.

Thanks.

FYI, my tounge in firmly in my cheek on this one. My point is that he seems more than a bit embarassed by his affiliation.

White is a Democrat and is running as such - although trying to look centrist. Perry is a Republican and is running as such - although trying to look conservative.

Based on my understanding of White's performance as a mayor, I would likely never vote for him. I am a conservative. But my original post had nothing to do with ideology, really. I was merely curious about why Perry - who is after all pretty well funded himself - is allowing his only real challenger to run against him unopposed in one of the two largest political markets in the state. That just seems foolish to me. What the hades is he doing with his time and money? Or, does he have other fish to fry and won't be much upset if he loses this election?

If the latter is the case, then Republican voters will have gotten completely hosed by him come November. I'm just worried about his failure to respond.

It's not really a race. White stands 0 chance of being elected.

McCain was never a viable candidate. The polls show no chance for White.

Believe me, I can't stand voting for a liberal nutcase like Perry, but even he realizes he can't lose. Thus why he isn't going to participate in any debates.

He's a Dem and this may help people here choose:

"Bill White is leaving Houston with huge deficits and debt, and his city may be bankrupt. Bill White is leaving Houston with a rising crime rate that he tried to hide, and he has signed on to extreme gun control ideas."

If his pollsters are reporting that your district is locked up in his favor, why spend a lot of money there? I'm sure Perry's staff is aware of what White's doing and not doing.

If you prefer the direct approach, you can send a note to campaign@rickperry.org and mark it to attention of Adam Leggett (handles FTW area) and Dwayne Horner (handles Dallas area)

I have noticed the same thing. Those Bill White ads make me nauseous. Where is his boasting about how good a Mayor he was?....Well I see the prob there.
So, Where is his concrete plans to make life better?...None so far
So, all he can say is feel good stuff that is sooooo generalized that every single person in Texas could say; "Yeah, I want that too".

I personally know someone who works in his campaign. The decision to not meet with Obama when he came was precisely planned because it was political bad news to be seen shaking his hand if he wanted to win in Texas. Otherwise, they would have been kissing on stage. The campaign plan is if anyone asks about White's political loyalties, they are to say "He's for Texas". Voters are supposed to be dumb enough and blind enough to not see through that.
Please make sure every person you can motivate votes. I would sure like to see a landslide.

So is this rash of ads a local phenomenon then? I know that White's reputation is tarnished by his performance as mayor of Houston, so I wonder if he's running all these ads in the next largest market where he hopes that people less individually familiar with his reputation might be swayed by the papp.
