Hostage situation in Discovery Channel building

A man armed with guns and explosives has taken at least one hostage in the Discovery Channel building in Silver Spring, MD.

Among his demands are for the Discovery Channel to broadcast their commitment to save the planet, find an end to global warming, and stop the encouragement of giving birth to "parasitic human infants".

I heard a report that people are locked in closets and other rooms in the building and shots have been fired.

I immediately have two (obviously self serving) observations:
1. This obviously couldn't be happening because people in Maryland are not allowed by law to carry guns and/or explosives.
2. If Maryland did have CHL laws, and some employees carried, this situation may have already been over.

Apparently this guy is a nut-job enviro-terrorist with a history of protesting against Discovery, including a large manifesto.

Here's a link to his manifesto.

After reading it, I sat there dumbfounded for a couple of minutes. How can anyone think like this?

What is "Insane People That Shouldn't Have Access To Guns."

Did I win that match of "Psycho Jeopardy"?

Anyone who thinks that taking a gun into a business office to take people hostage is going to get a TV network to change all of their upcoming programming is clearly not a rational person who can handle cause and effect reasoning.

This is his website: http://savetheplanetprotest.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I bet the ISP 'pulls it down' soon. The bandwidth it is consuming must be growing by the second.

How does one determine that? According to police, the only record he has is a disorderly conduct in 2008. That wouldn't prohibit a person from owning a firearm.

I'll also argue that a person having what I believe to be very skewed and outlandish opinions about global warming and human causes of it wouldn't qualify one as insane. I'm sure my position that humans cause little, if any, global warming and global warming is a natural process are skewed and outlandish to some people, and I assure you I'm quite sane, though some people I know may disagree.

This "save the planet" stuff is so silly in its stupidity.

When whatever it was struck the Earth 4 point something billion years ago and created the moon . . . the planet survived.

When the asteroid(s) that killed the dinorsaurs hit . . . the planet survived.

When Noah built his boat and everyone else died . . . the planet survived.

When Roseann Barr sang the National Anthem . . . the planet survived.

Can someone please explain to me why us mere humans could ever aspire to "save" a planet?

Looks like the suspect was shot and taken into custody. It was reported that the three hostages are safe. :clapping: :clapping:
