Neighbors are claiming PTSD, hairballs, and the heartbreak of psoriasis caused by witnessing this violent event.

When I was a teen, not all that long ago, my dad shot a 300lb boar in our yard on Christmas Day. It made it about 100 yards down the street, we cleaned it in the garage with the garage door open. Our house sat on 4 subdivision sized lots in suburb of Houston, nobody said boo. I love me some Texas.

I was in Denver, week before last. SWMBO and I were spending a week in Manitou Springs and drove up there to have dinner with some old friends that we knew from our time in England. I have two observations to make:

1. Although CO recognises a TX CHL and I carried without incident for a week in the Colorado Springs area, I disarmed before going to Denver because I had been informed that Denver LEO didn't care about state or federal law and, while I might beat the rap, I hadn't budgeted for the ride.

2. At the upscale restaurant in Denver, I enjoyed a nice piece of elk.

I should add a "3". I salute you, Sir, for mentioning "the heartbreak of psoriasis". Are you a Tom Waits fan?

There was a TV commercial in the 1960s that used the phrase "the heartbreak of psoriasis." It became an object of satire, ridicule, and hilarity in certain circles.

I've eaten chunks of a bunch of ungulate species. They mostly taste like beef, but tougher and much more expensive if you have to buy them retail.

I have to admit, I find this curious. Regardless of the local LEOs lack of respect for the law, I think it much more affordable to be found with my gun by the Denver police than found without it by the Denver thugs. I have carried in Denver several times without incident. Wherever I am, I usually do not bring the attention of law enforcement to me unless I have wanted it.

They're called "Californians". And they are sadly spreading out into and ruining the other mountain states having already taken most of Oregon and Washington (at least the populated areas).

The Phoenix, Arizona area, especially Chandler (where Intel moved when Silicon Valley became too expensive) went over 20 years ago.

They do not yet have enough influence to affect legislation, but the zoning issues are nuts.

Fair play. The first time I heard the term was in a Tom Waits song, which is probably why I associate it with him.

I take your point. But we all carry out our own risk assessments and in this case I was driving to an upscale restaurant, eating dinner, then driving home. My calculation was that the likelihood of needing to shoot was way less than the likelihood of being involved in an RTA and encountering an LEO who might choose to make my possession of a lawfully carried firearm a problem. I wouldn't do well in prison, so I gambled on leaving it at home.

Not very purist of me, I'll confess, and it does gall me that I was forced to choose possible death as preferable to prison rape, but there's times to be a crusader, and times to keep your head down.

"Officer, here's my driver license, here's my insurance. This is a rented vehicle, here's my rental agreement."

What else? They don't drag sober white people out of their vehicles often; and when they do, they tend to pay for it. That's why they don't.

On top of that, you have a British accent. You can get away with murder if you have a British accent.

It's a funny thing. As it happens, I am white and, while I'm not always sober, I make a point of being so whenever I'm driving or might have to drive. Can't abide drunk drivers.

But it's the accent thing that's the problem. I've lost count of the number of FFLs that have been unable to grasp that, as a Lawful Permanent Resident, it's perfectly OK for me to possess a CHL and a C&R FFL. Now try explaining that to a junior LEO during a traffic stop. All you're going to get is "You'se foreign, ain't you'se?"

Like I say, I'm not proud of my approach. And, in a year or so's time, when I become a US citizen, I may start shouting the odds about it. But for now, I'm going to keep my head down.
