But what's really funny about this is that, now that her story is on TV, the bad guy's homies are going to find out that he got his butt whooped by a single woman with no gun or knife. After that word gets out, he's gonna become some big tattooed thug's bi.... ah... girlfriend.

How about a "what if?" What if the wallet turns out to be from the last guy he robbed before he got to her house?

Yes, she survived. He still robbed her, and is probably still out robbing more people. She should have had a gun because it sounds like given the chance she would have used it-then we'd have one less dirt-bag roaming the mean-streets, & she'd still have "all of her money in this world".

Somebody get in touch with her and give her a gun, a box of bullets, and some training at the range.

Being a good guy, you haven't had the benefit of the advanced training courses in "how to commit crime" as taught in our correctional institutions, so you probably have no way of knowing why it's highly unlikely the wallet in this case came from someone other than the BG.

When a robbery is committed, a purse or wallet is gone through as soon as the BG stops running. Money and jewelry is immediately taken out, and the highly identifiable container (wallet or purse, usually with identifying documents and/or credit cards) is immediately ditched in a mailbox / trash container / storm sewer / wooded lot / culvert / under a car, etc. to prevent being caught with unmistakable evidence of the crime if they get spotted and stopped soon afterwards. The idea is to get way with money and money equivalent items that are hard to attach to the specific crime.

One correction to Excaliber's post. Checks and credit cards are now kept very often also. They still get rid of the wallet, but there is a street value for every credit card and blank checks. Many crooks know this and keep them because they are now a cash equivalent to them.

The sharper knives in the drawer will certainly take advantage of these financial tools. In order to get anything out of credit cards, they need to have a plan to use them in the first 15 - 30 minutes after the theft because these are usually canceled quickly. If they're used in person after that point, the attempt can identify them as in possession of stolen property at the point of sale.

A lot of street criminals don't have the planning and mechanisms in place to take advantage of this option during the available time window, but the ones who do will certainly take advantage of it.

Checks are much easier to pass off and are "good" for much longer than the cards. I didn't think to mention them because I was mentally picturing "wallets," which don't usually hold checkbooks, but it's good to call attention to them because purses often do.

Sudden thought: someone's going to have an unhappy day if the wallet her attacker dropped wasn't his, but belonged to the guy he mugged 15 minutes before breaking into her house...
