Let's see, we cannot seem to hold the real ones so maybe we need to find another whole new type.

Don't get me wrong - we are ardent recyclers and our recycle bin is full to the brim every week while I trash can rarely is. But somehow, this seems to be just another "over the top" program.

Edit: typo

Yet another group of government workers, complete with authority over us lessers, and a pension, probably a union.

Is it OK to spit in here? :grumble

Atlas shrugged. Maybe it's time for us to do likewise.

We have no obligation to use city-based tax removal services (which we do have to pay taxes to administer whether we like it or not.) Plenty of celebrities and country people hire private trash disposal services. Lots of people take their recyclables to private companies who will pay them directly. The city acts like it has a right to one's recyclables and the revenue generated from it and is willing to place spy products on your property in order to assess your movements and charge you for your private actions. Scary.

I live in an unincorporated (so far) area and pay for private trash collection.
We have two huge bins. We fill maybe one per month.
I burn the cardboard and wood trash, in my shop stove when possible.

We don't have curbside recycling, which I regret, but after reading that, maybe not.

I wonder if they would get mad if I were to recycle the bogus ticket instead of paying it?

I think it's the only correct thing to do! :cheers2:

I *used* to recycle until I noticed that I was being CHARGED for it...yes, CHARGED, as in a $$ on my bill (this was IN ADDITION to the waste and water portions of the city bill). I stopped recycling and I stopped being charged for it. The NERVE of folks to CHARGE me for something they will then SELL. No thank you!

That is not necessarily true. While tearing down an old wooden pole barn, I attempted to hire a private trash disposal service. None would talk to me except the one that is franchised by our Town. I didn't pursue it because, at that point in my project, I had much, much bigger problems. I know that I paid a franchise fee to the Town through the trash disposal service that I did hire. They were a nightmare to deal with (bad billing, etc.) and the Town said that it wasn't their problem - except that they are the ones with whom the franchise is granted.

Today, I probably would put up more of a fuss since I have to time to deal with it. I would definitely put up a fuss for them tagging my recycle bin. I noticed that the examples cited were above the Mason-Dixon or in Kaliforina and that isn't surprising to me.

Code enforcement is nothing new. If someone is unsatisfied perhaps they should attend city council meetings and voice that opinion.

Agreed. And remember to vote your councilman out come next election. They caved in, and both city and county officials raised taxes instead of belt tightening and requiring performance based employment in my locality.

Oh my ... so many rules. How can I remember them all? :headscratch If we keep it up, we will be able to eliminate all the laws and just print out a short book of what is legal with everything else being illegal.

And you'll have to pay $50 for that book. :mad5

A "chip" that monitors my trash... Hmmm... If my city starts doing this, I guess I'll be throwing away a lot of magnets. :tiphat:
