My new AK

Just picked up a Hungarian AMD-65 built on a FEG receiver. Took it to the range same day I bought it and threw around 100 rounds downrange with it. Works great. I think it may replace my Saiga build as my favorite AK....

Pictures of the two of them together:

I'm considering trading out the pistol grips for a pair of wood ones to make it look more like this:

Very nice!

May I ask where you bought them, and for how much?

I'm (hopefully) in the market, in a few months...

The Saiga I bought in 08 at Champion firearms in College Station for 300ish bucks and converted myself. :cheers2:

The AMD-65 I purchased at JM firearms in Temple for 600. :tiphat:

How do you like the wire stock? I wish I had a folding stock on mine, and have been considering retrofitting a Romanian wire side folder on to it.

If you like having cheek weld when you shoot, its not going to work. I have seen some people upgrade theirs with a riser like this: http://www.amd65tech.com/

This is to the most compact side folder you can get however. Its lockup is sturdy, its very light. I like the fact that the charging handle and stock are about the same thickness. On my Saiga, I set it up to fold to the left side of the gun, and so while a short package, its very thick.

When I was shooting it, recoil was manageable and stock felt natural against my shoulder. But you're basically putting your face behind the receiver to line up the sights with no support for your head at all.

I guess in short, I like mine. Just wanted to give you a heads up about the loss of cheek weld you'll have, especially if you're switching over from a fixed stock.

Nice to know. I like the AMD's also. I like the added front grip for stability. The sights are terrible on an AK anyway, and the fixed stock feels like its for people that are below 5'5" because the cheek weld on a regular stock puts my face way too close to the receiver in my opinion. I bought an adapter and added an ACE SOCOM adjustable stock to mine. I like it because it has a meat tenderizer type end on the bottom part and a spot to loop a sling into.

We have a winner. I like it, seems fairly sturdy so far.

That's why it looks decent - I thought the ACE block always looked like this (which I find incredibly ugly):
wow, that is ugly. Yeah, I like internal. I had to cut off the tang, meaning it can never be a fixed stock again, but that just means if I want a fixed stock I"ll have an excuse to buy another one! :cheers2:
