Fellow CHLer in my College Class!

I was sitting in Anatomy & Physiology lab today with my three table-mates. We'd been memorizing bone structures for well over 2 hours, and we had reached the saturation point for new information. We started talking, and the guy across from me mentioned that he liked my shirt. I was wearing my S&W "BANG" shirt.

I said thanks, and mentioned that the silhouette perfectly matched my Model 60. He said, "You have one of those? I do too!"

We got to talking about revolvers, and he asked if I had anything else. I told him about my new STI 1911, and he said, "I'm about to get a Springfield XD in .45 as my carry." After he said "carry" he trailed off and looked a bit sheepish, as though he didn't know how I'd react or if I knew what he was talking about.

"My 1911 is going to be my carry. Have you already applied for your license?"
Man, his face lit up. He hasn't taken the course yet, but is doing so next month. I asked where, and he said...TARGETMASTER. As you may know if you read my STI/TargetMaster fiasco, I am NOT happy with them.

I didn't tell him that, but I did mention that Red River Firearms is a lot closer, has a wonderful CHL instructor, and offers a student discount. Not only that, but for the student price of $108, you get a one-day class, fingerprints, photos, and a free year of level 1 membership that cuts your range fee by almost 40%.

I hope he gets his CHL, even if he does go to TargetMaster. I was so excited to see that someone else at my liberal-arts college is forward-minded about self-defense and firearms! Next semester I'm holding our Empty Holster Protest again, so I'll definitely be networking with him to try and get more participants.

Man, am I excited to find another CHLer at my college! I thought I had sniffed them all out...but I didn't factor in that we get a fair number of transfer students like him; guess I need to step it up and keep searching for 'em!

Sadly, I have not. School and a couple of family birthdays have eaten up what could have been range time, so I bet I'm just going to have to go out next week to shoot. I'm itching to try it out...I may call up a a friend and ask if I can use his land to pop off a few rounds after work, to tide me over until I can get to the range.

I'll post a report once I've handled it...photos included!

Are you going to come to the DFW get-together? It's somewhere around 60 miles from Grayson County to Elm Fork, so not a fast little jaunt, but some people are driving up from Austin so you wouldn't win the furthest trip award. It'd be nice to see you there!

Nope, it's not me, but my younger cousin attends AC. He is a recent CHL'er, he and I went to the range yesterday (Red River FireArms). His name is Monty. He may not talk about it like some do though. I was just curious, on the off chance that it is my cousin.

The guy in my class (DARN, why didn't I get his name??) said he hasn't qualified yet, and hasn't been to Red River at all. I don't think your cousin and my classmate are the same person...but that's good news to me! That means there is yet ANOTHER CHLer on campus!

Just to be safe, though...is your cousin taking Anatomy & Physiology this semester? :)

Hoi Polloi - It would be fun, but my husband and I both work full-time and attend college full-time. Any free time we have is spent sleeping! We'll have to wait until next summer to plan an outing anywhere in the Dallas area. Thanks for the info, though!

Randomoutburst- The kid you speak of may be a buddy of my cousin. My cuz introduced me to a friend of his yesterday evening, kid named Corey, if I remember right, that is really interested in getting his CHL, but doesn't know much about it.

I don't think the Cousin is taking Anatomy & Physiology. But I'm not sure.

Hmmm. Well, I will get the name of the kid next Thursday when we're in class again. I'm really interested now!

Yea, that is pretty neat....It's really a small world sometimes.

If you and the Husband are ever interested, we could try to set up a Sherman area range day, see how many members may be interested from the area.

Be worth a thought, anyway.
