Hello all, I'm new to the forum and would love to take advantage of all the great knowledge out there. I'm in the "manufacturing pending" stage of my CHL. I was wondering what other's opinions were about two guns in the Kimber line-up. I'm looking at purchasing a stainless pro raptor 2, or a pro crimson carry for my edc. I live in the DFW area and have found both guns at B&S Guns in Garland. Was wondering if anyone knows anything about this place or any other good places to purchase a Kimber. Thanks in advance for any help/opinons.

I've gotten the best prices and the best selection at the major DFW area gun shows. I do not see cheaper prices than I paid anywhere on the net. Just MHO. Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Welcome and congtats on the impending arrival of your plastic. Love the looks of both of your choices, just not a 1911 kind of guy should be someone along in a few minutes that will help you out.

I found my Kimber in a local shop in Euless (Euless Guns & Ammo) - a Stainless Ultra Carry II. My son has a Pro Raptor, the blue one, not the stainless one, purchased from Sporting Arms in Lewisville. Both are superb guns. We also own full-sized 1911s from Springfield and Taurus. The Springfield is a truly great pistol, but the fit and finish on the Kimbers is a little better. I would like to acquire a Pro-sized Kimber of my own. I think that 4" 1911s are probably the ideal compromise between concealability and size. Don't get me wrong, I really like the 3" gun; but I think that the slightly longer sight radius of the 4" pistol (plus an 8+1 round capacity) is an advantage.

My problem with the 3'' Kimber's is that they don't fit well enough in my hand. I have been a Springfield XD owner/fan, but really want to get into the 1911's. My buddy let me shoot his Kimber and I loved it.

I agree. They don't fit a larger hand that well. I got around it by using a Hogue wrap-around grip set with the finger grooves. That works pretty well.

Being in the boonies of NE Tx, I can't say anything about the gun shop, but I will comment on the choice of the Kimber. I have a fairly "old" (1997) Kimber Compact Stainless (4") that is excellent. I've handled and shot a lot of different Kimber models in both all steel and alloy models, and find nothing comparable to the steel... particularly mine . In the proper hands I'm sure the lighter weight alloy models are fine, but there's nothing like good solid steel in my opinion. I love my old Kimber!

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II as my EDC. Obviously, I think they're great pistols.

I personally will never set foot in B&S again, but that's just my opinion.

The Kimber Pro models have 4 inch barrels and a full sized frame. I have shot the Raptor II, and is was not as comfortable as a gun with checkering to me however a friend who was with me found the gun to be more comfortable than either of my Kimbers. I personally carry the Pro Covert II and when I don't carry it for some reason my TLE II often fills in for it.

I have both the Ultra Carry and the Pro models also, and I agree with TAM's comments. The 4" Pro model is my favorite carry gun, although the 3" doesn't give up much and has a significant advantage when dressing lightly for the heat.

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum and also to the Kimber Klub.

You can't go wrong with either of the two choices you listed.

I have mulitple Kimbers and never any issues. Main carry is a Pro CDP, bobbed with thin grips. never fte or ftf. the 3" leaves my pinky hanging but is still easy to shoot.

I have both and prefer the ultra, since it fits well to my small girlie hands. I like my ultra so much that im debating on trading off the 4" pro tac. You definitely can't go wrong with either gun.

FYI B$S always charges full retail. Just around the corner from there is S.A.W @ Collins and 80 in Sunnyvale. They have some of the best prices on Kimbers in the area. I know for a fact that they drop the price on a lot of guns about $20 for the shows. There's a show @ Big Town next weekend and AJC Sports(who aren't always there) also have exellent prices. Good luck on your search.
