Fall weather means comfortable carrying!

It's 61F right now in Houston, and it feels great to be comfortably wearing a full-sized 1911 in an OWB holster for the first time in five months :hurry: Anyone else enjoying the first day of using their fall/winter carry setup again?

Edit - ... OWB under a jacket. The cool temperatures haven't resulted in me having a stroke!

Time to break out the shoulder holsters and ankle holsters!

Yeah, wearing an extra cover garment will be nice.
The best part is no more sweating on my gun for a while. ;-)

I have never OWB carried, and honestly, it is a bit scary thinking about doing it.
What types of covers do you all wear and how do you avoid the situations where (if you are using a jacket), that you go indoors and cannot remove it. For me, that would get uncomfortably warm - let alone sweat for some minor nerves for the OWB carry.

Since I already carry OWB with just a T-Shirt as cover, the addition of a light jacket is not a problem.
The only difference is I will tuck my T-Shirt behind the holster. That way the jacket can be swept back for quick access to the gun. If I must remove the jacket I can just pull the T-Shirt back over the holster to remain concealed.

I carry IWB with a T-shirt, but the shorts or pants hide the bulge, I am trying to picture how a T-shirt hides the bulge of an OWB. (unless you are 2 sizes over your normal size, maybe the T-shirt is really loose enough to just flap around?
Once I can picture that, I would be tempted to go OWB.

Thanks

It's supposed to break 80 today but it's a nice change that's the high, not the low.

I think it depends on the holster. A good holster will hold the gun high and close to the body and have a decent cant to it.
I use a Galco and carry a 1911 under a regular size (for me) T-Shirt. I won't claim there is absolutely no bulge, but it is very slight. My wife usually doesn't even notice unless she puts her arm around my waist.

The main reason I carry OWB is for comfort.
Unless I buy pants that are a size larger, the addition of anything extra inside my waistband gets uncomfortable after a while.

Thanks USA1, appreciate the info.
I may have to look into a Galco for my XD9sc

I will point out that the gun also makes a difference.
For a while I carried an XD40sc (same dimensions as your gun) and it did poke out a bit more than a much thinner 1911.

Couldn't agree more!! The windows have been open all morning, I am enjoying this beautiful day that I thankfully have off. I think I am going to try OWB carry with my XD40sc, but I love the fall as it makes it possible for me to carry my XD45service IWB much easier.

I usually use a Bianchi 82 holster for my 1911, which is the active retention leather pancake style holster. It's very, very comfortable, holds it nicely against the body with no noticeable bulge, and is fast to draw/reholster. That's my big love for OWB - much fast draw speed, at least for me.

If it's downright cold out and I can wear my heavy leather jacket, I'll carry with a SERPA holster, which are my favorite for drawing and reholstering, but they bulge too much on me for even a normal coat.
