Alaska trip and enroute

I know Alaska is unrestricted. More concerned about anything else along the way that I might not foresee WRT carrying.

Our plan is to fly from DFW to Seattle, pick up a rental Tahoe/SUV and drive up the Alaska Highway to Anchorage. then fly back. There will be another couple joing us in the NW.

There is a long ferry trip, and parts of this probably goes through Canada.

My plan is to pack a couple of handguns. I can figure out the airplane part. It's the section between airports I'm worried about.
Once on the road, will I be going through Canada? If so, I'm outa luck with regard to carrying?

Denali National Park is part of the deal. I presume standard National park rules ....rule.

What about the ferry trip through the inland waterways. It's part of the highway system, so I am assuming carry is OK.

Any suggestions on this trip welcome, including things we need to include or prepare for. Probably will happen in September

Yes you will go through Canada on your drive up. Your will have to get a permit from them. Not such an easy thing to do. As I understand you have to show cause for having a gun up there like a sporting event, hunting etc.. I am not sure of the process but I would contact the Canadian authorties. Sounds like a GREAT trip. Alaska is the only state I haven't made it to. Can I ride in your suitcase? Make sure you carry some emergency food, water, and matches in the car for that trip. You will be covering ALOT of open territory.

Geez, those guys are worse than Kalifornians.

It appears that any handgun I take would have to have a barrel of at least 4.1 inches. That rules out all of my carry weapons, leaving only my .22 rimfires. I guess that's justification for buying that Ruger Blackhawk ;)

I see there is a provision for transport via direct route, which would be the case here. I'll go back and research that aspect a little more.

Thanks for the links.

You might consider shipping your guns to yourself c/o an address in Alaska where you enter the state and the same for the return trip. Maybe someone here has experience with this. Maybe find an ffl in Seattle and ask him. I have not done this myself, but understand that it is not that hard to do. It would sure solve the travel through Canada problem.

That's a good thought. Once we nail down our first Alaska lodging stop I'll look into that.

Rex, if I may ask, why don't you fly directly into Alaska?

What fun would that be????

This is a sight-seeing road trip. The trip is primary, destination is secondary.

We like to drive. We'd drive the whole way except it would take a week longer and we've already seen most of that part of the country.
