Help for those waiting on plastic

We have a lot of people new to CHL here so here is a couple of things that will help you wait.
1) Do not check the DPS web site before 60 days. This will become obsessive and does not make it move any faster (in fact it will seem slower if you continue to check it). My sone started checking 3-4 times a day as soon as his check cleared. He said that was the longest 2 months he has ever had to wait.
2) use the time waiting to figure out what and how you will carry. Then carry at home all of the time to get used to the feel of it. Then it will not feel so abnormal when you go out the first time.
3) Read all you can about the carry laws. Lets face it, there seems to be a lot of mis-information from instructors getting passed around. If you have a question about a law, come here to ask. Lots of knowledge here.
4) Dont worry. It will get here soon.

I'm one of those that is waiting on something....anything....to appear on the DPS website. I was checking multiple times a day but now I only check once at the end of the day. I started breaking in my holster around the house and have switched carry positions 3 times already. The wife thinks I'm going a little overboard at times.
Thanks for the advice on dealing with the wait.

Don't feel bad. It took me a solid year to settle on what works best for me.
I tried everything from fanny pack to IWB to OWB in all positions, cants and heights.
As for the wife, mine thought the same thing about me at first. I've learned to do most of
the adjusting and looking in the mirror while she wasn't around.

Yep. My wife thought the same thing. UNTIL she got her CHL. While waiting, I think she spent the entire time in front of a mirror trying to find what works best for her.

. But at least she did and now she carries 24/7 also

I started seeing my application status online one week after submitting it to DPS. I noticed they only update the system once a day, so checking multiple times a day may be something to do, but I think it will only result in frustration.
The whole cycle time for me was 35 days, and my wife's was 40 days. Although we took the class and submitted our documents the same day, DPS somehow applies random turnaround times to the applications, and its impossible to exactly predict when you'll get your plastic. However I sense that the turnaround time has been less than 60 days.
I'm still playing with my rig set up. I'm working on my 4th holster right now to find out if leather is better than nylon. I've tried multiple positions, and it seems that 4:30 seems to feel best.
Good luck to you. Be patient for the time being.

I admit I got obsessive waiting for mine - it only took me 178 days from Pin to Plastic in Hand. The waiting period I've been seeing for applicant nowadays seems like a breeze! Good Luck to All!

You are treading on very thin ice. One of the ladies here is just bound to show up on this thread shortly and clean your clock!
If our wives didn't keep nailing our feet to the floor, we'd all be running off some place and getting ourselves into big trouble.

We will be married 40 years in December. In that time, I've learned which side of the bread the butter is on.
P.S. It didn't help me....I've managed to get myself into big trouble all the time anyway.

It is like the old addage "a watched pot never boils." My fiance thinks I'm obsessed because I check this forum so often. I need to get her on the CHL bandwagon so she will understand. Like someone once said "a smart person learns from their mistakes, a wise person learns from the mistakes of others"
