Warning: shameless plug here.

Kemper Crabb, an incredibly talented musician from Houston (you may know him from his Medieval Christmas concert shown on PBS the past two years) and a very good friend of mine, has recently released an absolutely fantastic Hymns album. I’ve been plugging it on the forums that I’m a member of primarily because all of the proceeds will go to the missionary organization Servants of the King started by his father Kemper Crabb Sr. a three time Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Also because I just really love it!

Description:
Kemper Crabb returns after his record-breaking PBS Christmas special, DOWN IN YON FORREST, with RELIQUARIUM, a collection of post-Reformation hymns rendered beautifully strange in a collision of world-wide stylistic influences all existing in the same musical space. For the most part eschewing guitar-driven treatments, these song arrangements are anchored in instruments such as oud, kalimba, dulcimer, bouzouki, theremin, crummhorn, bagpipe, cittern, and other exotic instrumentation (most of which Kemper played himself). Ranging from the epic to the intimate to the cinematic (and all points in between) this project takes the listener on a layered and complex journey through medieval, middle eastern, pop and art-rock landscapes into a transcendent world which fuses the past and present to touch the boundaries of the future. Even if you're not fond of spiritual music, you'll enjoy this enigmatic and uplifting record.

My musical tastes are quite varied (from classical to heavy metal and most everything in between) so I tend to really enjoy unique projects that incorporate elements from different styles and genres. This is a great example of that.

If you like Celtic, you should really check out his ‘Downe In Yon Forrest – Christmas from the Middle Ages’.
