Reb. Debbie Riddle (R-Tomball) has filed a bill authorizing law enforcement officers to check immigration status of any person in custody for a crime. It also proposes cutting off all state funding to any city that declares itself a "sanctuary city".

Outstanding.
I would encourage all my fellow citizens to contact their local state representative and recommend they support this measure.

Upon further research, this fine lady is attempting to address some issues I find extremely important:
- requiring identification verification at the polls in order to vote
- defunding state governing agencies that fail to enforce immigration laws
- requiring proof of citizenship prior to enrollment in publicly funded schools
Impressive....MOST impressive.
I will definitely be tracking this, and demanding my reps support these measures.

They don't check for that?
Nope...
Are they insane????
Yup...
I asked the same question when I voted, and was told the only requirement was that the voter present a voter registration card.
[Key word being "A"]
So basically, you could go out and find ANY schmuck capable of registering to vote, and give that voting card to somebody else to pass off a vote at the polls.
Apparently, this is common throughout many states, and compromises the entire system imo...
When only 40% of eligible citizens actually take the time to vote, EVERY vote becomes vital.

what is more frustrating the we the legal immigrant can't vote because first it is illegal to do so and we have a tons at stake to lose, and the illegals can vote (fraud) and have nothing to lose. I have been living in US for more 10 yrs and as matter of fact since August 1999, that is 11+ years and still not a citizen due to the not so streamlined immigration system.

I will be keeping a close eye on this one. I do oppose illegal immigration, but we have to be careful that the wording is not racist nor facist. As long as the law inquires the immigration status of everyone who is arrested for breaking a law, I have no problems with the law. However, if the law lets police officers detain anyone they want just because they suspect someone is an illegal immigrant, then that would make it a racist law and I would not support it. Texas being a state with a very large voting Hispanic population, I suspect that the law would probably NOT be written in a racist manner. I will wait until I read the actual bill before I pass judgement on this one. Anyone have a link to the actual bill ? Thanks.
