Korean M-1/M-1 Carbines...Lets try to get them

So, back in September the Obama/Clinton State Dept. prohibited the sale of about 90K M-1 Garands and over 800K M-1 Carbines, which were made in the U.S. and used by U.S. military, back into the U.S. This was after previously authorizing the sale.

So in light of the NEW NORMAL in the House and Senate, is there any hope of restoring the transaction. This could be by influence as was exercised in the case of reloading components a year ago or so, or by amendments attached to other legislation as was the case with CCW in National Parks.

Has anyone heard of the NRA or any other organization trying to take action on this matter?

I know that the Obama/Clinton goal is to melt them down.

What a tragedy and loss of history that would be.

Maybe this should be in the political section. Admins feel free to relocate this if necessary.

I agree with you on this...

It really sickens me that this is happening to the American Citizens (taxpayers) equipment...to my way of thinking that equipment/mechanical implement belongs to the American taxpayer and should/could be returned and sold to us.

I for one would love to have 1 of each as I have yet to start collecting US WW2 weps. Outta my budget at the moment, but I still dream of one day acquiring some of them!

Legislators are getting involved. See this NRA Alert from 10/18/10:

Didn't this whole thing start under Bush (2006 if I remember right)? Its because we gave them the guns so we don't want them selling them back to us.

We had this conversation on here a few months back.

They wouldn't be selling them back directly to the gov't. They would be sold to re-importers, who would in turn sell them to the public as was done in the past ('88 - '94, after which Clinton closed the door via his Sec. of State). But yes, the whole flap started in 1986 because the gov't claimed that these were "Lend-Lease" carbines and Garands, and could not be sold to re-importers, and actually seized a shipment of Korean weapons from Blue Sky, Arlington VA because they said it violated the Arms Export Control Act, but released them 4 months later. In late 1987 Congress amended the Arms Export Control Act, and in early 1988 Blue Sky and other companies began importing additional Carbines and Garands.

I don't believe the Bush administration was involved during their tenure. This administration has already stated that they believe the re-importation of these weapons poses a threat to society. I'm sure they'll come up with even more reasons/excuses based on their anti RKBA positions. The door slammed by Clinton's Sec of State is being held closed today by Obama's Sec. of State, who's name is also Clinton :-)
