Puppy needs a home

I got home last night after dark, but needed to put our garbage cans in my truck & take them up to the house. (We have a little over 100 acres.)

As I grabbed the first can, something came at me from the dark & scared the heck out of me. My pistol magically appeared in my hand as I jumped back. I truly don't remember drawing it. It turned out to be a large, friendly puppy. Thanks a bunch for the adrenalin dump!!!

She's still hanging out at our front gate today and appears to be as healthy as can be. Someone apparently dumped her out yesterday. We checked with the neighbors and she doesn't belong to anyone.

I guess she's about a 6-month old Black Lab. She is very friendly and appears to be in good health. One thing is sure... she is starving for affection.

If someone wants her, please let me know. She will make someone a wonderful companion, but we can't have her here.

She seems to have a really sweet disposition. I wish we could keep her, but there are several reasons that is impossible.

I'm hoping to find her a home before any of the wild critters around here get her. I would rather put her down myself than let that happen. I truly don't want to do that.

Someone please take her!

You are evil! LOL! He is beautiful! I will keep my ears open for anyone looking. We have 4 dogs and definitely don't need another.

if you live near an SPCA type setup, they 'should' take him, and puppies normally get adopted before adults, so he has a very good chance of getting adopted as well

I just checked their site. They don't take strays. I also don't have any way to transport her to Dallas or McKinney.

the other option cost money, which most people don't have to spare, but if they don't take strays, you can turn "your" pet over, for a fee normally....
No, I am not asking you to spend your money on that, just stating the facts.

I would be willing to spend a reasonable amount, but problem #2 above still exists.

That's exactly what I planned on doing, with a stray kitten that turned up at our house. It's something like $80 round our way (at the no-kill shelter).

Ended up keeping her, of course, and now I have to fit kiddie proof locks to the kitchen cabinets, since she figured out how to open them...

Pawpaw - If the SPCA is too far, are there any other no-kill shelters closer to your home? We have one that's not affilliated with the SPCA (even though it's called Amarillo SPCA :???: ).

Good looking pooch, but I'm unable to help. I will, however keep my eyes/ears open for someone that may be interested. We have a 40 lb. dog that thinks our house is hers and we are only here to serve her, so the introduction of a large, happy-go-lucky puppy would be a disaster......

Don't put it down, someone will want it.

There aren't any no-kill shelters around here.

I just took some food down to the front gate and checked the pup... "he" is a "she". In the spirit of full disclosure, I have edited all of my previous posts to reflect the proper gender.

She's a bit dirty from living down there at the front gate, but I can see no sign of mange or any other ailment.

Big black dogs are the hardest to get adopted when placed in shelters.

We knew that when we adopted our Rottie, but the shelter worker threw another twist in the discussion. After we met the dog and introduced him to our Boston terriers to make sure he wouldn't be agressive; we said we would take him. The shelter man who was standing with my husband sighed and said - "I'm sure glad he found a home".

We both thought he was talking about the fact that everyone knows big black dogs are the hardest to place. It was a kill-shelter. Some of the dogs only have 3 days to be adopted before they are euthanized to make space for other dogs coming in.

Instead, he said, "We don't always have to hold to that 3 day rule, we try to give them as much time as we can. Because he is getting adopted, it opens up some space here, so it could give some of the others more time to live"...

Man. We thought we were only help save 1 life by giving our boy a home, but according to that shelter man - we might have helped others have a second chance too!

I hope the people on this thread can help spread the word and find her a new home! She's a beauty and you can see the intelligence in her eyes! Labs are great family dogs! Spread the word!

Try these folks http://www.texaslabrescue.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

We've got nothing but good things to say about the rescue groups, particularly the Tri-state Keeshond Rescue, that work so hard to find good forever homes for rescue animals.
