Boy is about to turn fourteen so i bought him a Mossberg 702 .22lr! of course it has to stay in the safe! I cant wait to see the look on his face! I was excited buying it! This is an awsome experience where i feel proud enough of my son that he has learned responsible gun saftey that i can give him this tool of manhood! Next step is learning how to pay bills!

I heard somewhere that if you go huntin' with your kids when they are young, you're less likely to hunt for them when they are older.
and
It's better educate kids about guns, than to let the TV or a gang-member do it.

I was not really early in introducing my boys to the world of firearms. Sometime around ages 12 and 13. They are now 15 and 16, with a healthy respect for firearms. After their playing of many combat and shoot-em-up video games, the reality of firearm responsibility and the actuality of the operation of the care, feeding, respect and safety of firearms has brought them into a new world. Their behavior around firearms has impressed me.
I wish I had begun with them sooner......
Congratulations on the new gun for your son! He'll get many years of fun out of it, and perhaps it will become his son's first gun as well!

I wish my Dad had bought me my first gun. I shot quite a bit as a young child but always his gun or friends of the family. I purchased my first firearm myself and then let my Dad shoot it. We shoot together frequently still to this day.

Congrats! I took my son to Mesquite (Big Town) for his 10th b-day, helped him pick his first firearm, and made him read and recite to me the Safety and User manuals between there and Garland. There we hit the range, but only after much additional instruction. We had a great time that was very fun, safe, and educational...for both of us. It was certainly different than being a range safety at Ft. Jackson and Ft. Bliss!
Attached is a shot of my son with his Marlin .22. It's his, but it's under my control. He does know, however, that he can see it any time as long as he asks me and that, after range time, he will ensure that it is safely and properly cleaned. That was the only part the hated. (yay for building character!)
Here's to many more safe and fun bonding moments between father and son in both of our cases.

I have a .410 single shot shotgun that was given to my dad when he was 9 years old. He gave it to me when I was 9 years old. Not my prettiest gun, but still my favorite.

My son just got his first firearm for Christmas. It is a Rossi .243 with a Weaver 3-9 scope. He is pretty pumped.
I say more guns and less video games!

That gun is a keeper!
I first taught my boys to shoot at about age 8 & 9. I also had them shoot a single-shot, break-action H&R .22. I like break action guns for new shooters because I can tell at a glance from a distance that the gun is unloaded and unable to shoot. Range safety is my #1.
I waited until they were a few years older to learn to deal with magazines and safeties in a Ruger 10/22.

Bought my 9 year old a Savage .22 LR for Christmas. He was stoked. I know it's a little big but he shoots it well on the rest at our range.

first rifle my father gave me was a Remington .22lr when i was 11 years old and i loved it, he took me with my grandfather on my first hunting trip that winter and with my tasco 4x scope i shot a jack rabbit, i still remember how excited i was when he gave me that gun and to actually shoot something with it. i returned the favor this Christmas by buying him his dream gun, a Springfield M1 Garand. that's only the 3rd time i've seen tears in my father's eyes (the first 2 were at his parents' funerals).
hope you and your son enjoy shooting together as much as my father and i have. target shooting and hunting trips with my dad are my favorite childhood memories.
