criminal background via fingerprints

OK...perhaps this has been covered but my limited search did not turn up anything.

Let's suppose an employer does a criminal background requiring fingerprints. I assume the fingerprints are a positive ID that would prevent someone from falsifying his identity and are used to cross reference against a database of known prints of criminals. Is that the gist of it? I was just curious if in any way the fingerprints would ID a CHL since we were fingerprinted?

Sorry if this has been covered.

The fact that you have a CHL is confidential. By law, the only agencies allowed access this information is the DPS and other Criminal Justice agencies upon official request to DPS. DPS is also required to notify you if they release your information to another Criminal Justice agency.

Never the less, companies apparently are retaining private investigators to do background checks on prospective employees; and legally or not, those background checks are revealing that the person being checked has a CHL, and that information is being conveyed to the employer.

We had a thread going about this just within the past couple of months.

Can you post a link to that thread? This is the first I've heard of this. I wonder if such an occurrence would be a violation of law?

Ok... I thought I remembered a thread about this. doesn't appear to be a clear cut answer. I guess it just depends who runs it and whether or not they divulge it if they find it.

In the other thread, no one was able to provide a concrete example of it happening that a private background check showed your CHL status. There was a Houston PI who offers to find out if a person has one for a fee. Someone is breaking the law in getting that information to him, but maybe not the PI.

I ordered one (a check) on myself once a number of years ago and it showed up my Florida CWP. Florida has since passed a confidentiality statute and my Florida CWP has expired.
