I was just wondering if anyone has owned/shot one? I am looking at a R700 and I do not know which one to buy. I was looking at the adl originally bc it is cheap and would be ok for a little hog hunting and just messing around. However I found the sps tactical in .308 and thought it had a whole new level of cool. It's about a 200 $ difference.

The only thing that concerns me is the short barrel. It's only 20 inches compared to the 26 of the adl. The plus is it's a heavy barrel which is free floated. I'm just worried about the velocity hit because I might want to get into long range shooting eventually. It seems like it could be a good start however. Any thoughts? Thanks.

If you are wanting a precision target/hunting rifle I don't know of a better pic than what you have. The .308 round out of a 20" barrel is potent at any distance out to 800yds I would think. The 700 action is what TONS of people use on custom bolt guns from mild to wild. You did great and worth the extra $200 any day. Range photos and targets please...

I have two, a .223 and a .308. I love them both. I had to send the .223 back becuase the headspacing was a little too tight and the bolt was way too hard to close with a round in the chamber. Remington had it for about 5 weeks, got it back and it works like a charm. I have only shot them out to 250 yards but both are far more accurate than what I paid. At $550ish it is a heck of a bargain and gives you room in your budget for glass and other goodies. I plan on switching out the bottom metal on the .308 for a 5 round detachable unit and swapping out the stock on both for a fully bedded unit. The stock is def. the weekest part of this rifle as it isn't fully bedded and can result in the barrel and stock making contact if you put on a bipod. The stock itself is nice and has great grip, I just wish it was fully bedded. All in all they are a very good, inexpensive mid range precision rifle for someone getting in to distance shooting.

A 20" heavy barrel is actually stiffer than a 26" barrel of the same diameter and degree of taper. ↑ stiffness = ↑ accuracy. The only loss is in velocity, but you'll still be getting sufficient velocity to hit quite hard out to fairly long distances.

Take a close look at two scopes from SWFA for it:

1) 10X fixed 10x42HD Tactical (I have this one on my M1A)... this scope has HD glass, normally found only on much more expensive scopes. It has a mil-dot reticle, and .1 mil adjustments on the elevation and windage knobs. Rear focus. Bright and clear. 30 mm tube. $799.95

2) 3-9x42 Tactical, first focal plane mil-dot, .1 mil adjustments on elevation and windage knobs, 30 mm tube, $599.95.

SWFA caught a lot of flack over the years for these scopes, particularly back when they were manufactured by Tasco. But these are a whole new couple of products. They are much better equipment than the rest of the line. The adjustment clicks are clean and crisp. The knobs are held on by steel socket head screws, one per knob, that make it easy to set the knobs to zero once you've got the rifle zeroed. They are rugged scopes, and will take the recoil of a .50 BMG, so your .308 isn't going to hurt them. You can spend twice as much money for either of these two products, and you won't get twice the scope. Not even close.

And no, I don't get paid for recommending them. I am just impressed with the quality for the price.

Ive got a sps tactical 308 20" HB. set the trigger as low as I could, not great but decent. Also got a Rem. Police stock full aluminun bedding for $150, beleive made by HS Precision and it shoots 175 bergers and 168 bts. under 1/2" @ 100 running 2573 and2603. Best group @ 200 5 shots .71" The stocks they come with aren't very good. I was fortunate to get the other stock from a buudy at the range. Tried a bunch of powders but 4064 works best in this gun. It shot great out of the box but better with the police stock.

Haven't got it yet but I am sure shopping for the best deal. If I end up getting the gun I will definitely post the pictures. I really am leaning towards the SPS tactical as opposed to the plain old ADL.

Yes, I have been researching and have also heard that the stock is the weakest link. I guess that is where they save on cost so they can sell it at a cheaper price. From what I can tell I agree with you on the inexpensive mid range rifle. I would love to get into distance shooting in the future and I am thinking this is the best way to go.

Thanks for the tips. I do not know all that much about scopes and I have been researching. I will definitely check them out as a scope will be my next big purchase. The scope I own now is a cheap bushnell that I sure would do no justice on the rifle if I purchase the SPS tactical. But hey I will just keep saving to finally get the nice scope I need for the gun.

I just looked an hour ago and they still have them in stock. They were out for the past week and I was stocking the web page because it was the lowest I good find and they had good reviews.
