France: "Drop the truffle and no one will get hurt"

On a farm in southern France Monday a farmer fatally shot a suspected truffle thief.

Truffles are mushrooms that sell for hundreds of dollars a pound on the honest market. Thieves make life miserable for truffle farmers.

Using force or even wet noodles in defense of property is unheard of in Europe.

Farmers marched in support of the accused man.

What did the thief expect, given that the farmer's name is pronounced "Rambo"? (More or less, anyway). ;)

Given your comment above and before reading the article, my immediate thought was "A poet shot him?"

I was relieved to see a slightly different spelling, however
Very good, Sir! :tiphat:

The moral of the story: Don't steal and you won't get shot.
