Visiting from Colorado

We are here in Texas (West of San Antonio about 40 miles) and will be here till April before we return to Colorado.
I have a CCW permit from Colorado but the state doesn't require any handguns to be licensed other than the AFT (or whoever) the selling dealer reports it to!
So when I run into a sign that says "The UNLICENSED possession of a weapon..." because I have a CCW is that mean that I'm licensed? Am I ok since the state of Colorado doesn't licensed/register guns?

A little help for the guy from Colorado please!!!!!!!! :anamatedbanana

Texas doesn't have "gun registration" nor "license guns" either.
Those signs refer to the person being a Concealed Handgun Licensee ... CHL as we call it here.

For reciprocity, there's a map someone will post here probably, or you may already know if we honor CO. or not ... I dunno: (I don't get out much)
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra ... rocity.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, I dunno your CO laws, but know that the "gunbusters" signs here are an advisory to unlicensed persons of a property owner's wishes, and not a regulatory sign for CHLs, but see the signs section on this forum for more info on 51% and 30.06 signs; and Penal code 46.03 for places you can't carry even if there's no sign at all.

Charles summarized a list of off-limits places here
: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=6994" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One restrictive Statute is here http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/d ... /PE.46.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A handy sign reference, (regarding enforceable versus ignorable signs) is here: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=34571&hilit=signs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The blue "unlicensed" sign pertains to "persons without a license/permit to carry which is honored in Texas"... not the gun itself. I'ts generally found at convenience stores, restaurants, liquor stores, WalMart, Grocery Stores ... places which sell alcohol but less than 51% of the income is from "on-premise consumption" sales. So, if your license is honored in Texas, walk right by them and smile ... but avoid the red 51% and properly posted 30.06 (any color) signs.

I'm not a lawyer, and, it's still early, I'm not caffeinated yet, but that's the basics in a nutshell.

As RPB says, here in Texas we don't license guns, only people. So, since you are licensed carrier of a firearm, you can legally carry concealed past those signs.

A link to download the Texas CHL laws is here: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/InternetFo ... CHL-16.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

By the way, welcome to Texas, be sure to visit some caves/caverns (about 70 degrees year round) and some pretty rivers/lakes in the area while you are here; if you have time. You, licensed people, can carry concealed in LCRA property lakes/rivers etc, and in State/County/City Parks here (except the few on US Army Corps of Engineers properties).

We have CONCEALED carry, no open carried handguns on the body nor visible in a vehicle. (I dunno what CO has, so just lettin' you know)

Anything else ... just ask. :tiphat:

Here's some info on CC reciprocity. We hope you enjoy Texas as much as we enjoy the San Juans of Colorado.

Thanks, I keep intending to bookmark that site ... so we do honor CO, and another point MUST IDENTIFY/Must Inform Officer ... if your out of state plates get you pulled over in a traffic stop (not sayin' it happens) Unlike CO, you need to present your handgun license along with driver's license and insurance if you are armed. (Though the penalty for failing to do so was removed here in Texas) See http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/texas.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
