Will the ATI GSG MP5 SD be a collector's item?

I picked up a GSG-5 SD at a local gun store right before Christmas. It is the 1st Anniversary edition. I know ATI was sued by HK and lost, and HK is licensing the MP-5 to Umarex for future production. So, once the stock of ATI imported GSGs are gone, they're gone. I know they've been popular, and I've always wanted a real MP-5, so I thought this would be a fun gun to have. Plus, I wanted to shoot it with my kids.
Question is, does anyone think this will become a true collector's item? If so, I should probably put it in a safe and not shoot it. If it won't, I might swap it for another .22. Any ideas?

I doubt they will become collectible. They are still making them just sending some of their profit the way of HK. They are now making 1911 .22lr models, AK .22lr models, and all the various configurations of the MP5. They are great plinking guns from what I hear. I don't own one but want one. I'm saving my money right now for the real deal, an MP5 clone SBR with a 3 lug barrel and a can.

Definitely not a collector's item. Buy a GSG-522 and drop the $50 for the conversion kit back to a GSG-5 configuration (

BTW, I own a GSG-5(SD) and I _love_ that plinker :)

What does the conversion do exactly? Does it convert the rifle back to a pistol? If so that is a no no since its registered as a rifle to begin with.

No, the GSG-522 has parts added to it to give it distinct differences to an actual H&K, the GSG-5 convertion kit has the parts that were changed. They can no longer make the complete gun with those parts due to H&K patents/ design characteristics but sell the convertion so you can do it yourself.

I had the original GSG-5, so no need for the parts kit. But, I ended up swapping it for the HK 416 .22 LR. I already have a 5.56 AR, and decided that a .22 AR would be a fun plinker plus I practice on the same form factor. I took it out today briefly and shot a few hundred rounds through it. Very fun. And a whole lot cheaper than running a comparable number of rounds through my 5.56 gun.
