KILLEEN - A man who broke into a Killeen home Thursday morning ran off after being shot by the resident.

Killeen Police say the suspect kicked in the door of an apartment in the 3000 block of Cantabrian Drive around 7:45 a.m. However, he ran out the back door after the resident shot him in the leg.

s officers were responding to the scene, they saw a man matching the suspect's description running through a field. He located and arrested about 15 minutes later at the Mickey's Convenience Store located on S. Fort Hood Street.

The suspect was transferred to Scott & White Hospital for the gunshot wound

Really? Sounds like he was protecting his family and possessions to me.

hmmm looks like they "updated" that story after first posting it. They don't post an "updated" time/date ... but there's more story there now.

by Louis Ojeda Jr. and Matt Johnson

Guess the editor's bias is showing, first couple paragraphs are new and some re-wording in others.

yesterday = A man who broke into a Killeen home Thursday morning ran off after being shot by the resident.

today =

Killeen man took justice into his own hands Thursday morning after an attempted burglary at his home.

He shot the burglar in the leg before anything could be stolen.

Editor probably thinks homeowner should have waited a while.

if you didn't see the video (wasn't up yesterday)

http://www.kxxv.com/global/category.asp ... Id=5427974" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
at the end ..

"Police do NOT recommend fighting back against an attacker"

and more :banghead:

Weird, I thought most police recommended fighting off attackers, using keys or whatever you could, and making loud noises .... which a bang does ...

Play possum I guess ...? Works for the Bradys (Colin Goddard got lifetime employment for it)

I advise shooting the home invader until his no more threat. This is what the lady in the video, I assume a LEO, should have said.

That reporter got that all wrong. The officer said that one has to use your own instincts and that she does not want to tell anybody to shoot anybody. To me that doesnt say "don't fight back" but do what you are comfortable with.

Typical response and attitude from some KPD LEO.. Thankful not all, or even many.
I've had run in's with one of there detectives investigating the shooting of one of my Soldiers..
And of course, we only have part of the whole story.

This from the town which gave us the example of why we need a CHL right after the horrid incident at Luby's.

If someone had shot Hennard, would that be "taking justice into their own hands"?
