This is a short, 44 second video from a recent session where
Tucker Carlson and Grover Norquist were questioning the 4
candidates for the Chairmanship of the Republican National
Committee.

Norquist: "How many guns do you own?"
(Note that he didn't ask "Do you support 2A rights?")

Michael Steele and one of the women responded "None".

The gentleman from <Wisconsin?> - "Five" although he didn't
elaborate as to models.

The other female candidate <Anne Wagner?> - "16, including handguns,
a Glock, and <long guns>. We just got a new gun safe for Christmas."

When the woman responded "16", John Stewart of the Daily Show
quipped "We have our new Chairman of the RNC!". :-)

Vested interest in protecting the RKBA? Michael Steele does not have a spotless record in that regard. Yes, he is somewhat conservative, but he is the kind of conservative that is uncomfortable with an armed yeomanry.

A: My views are pretty much in line with the governor's. I grew up under some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. You can have all the gun control laws in the country, but if you don't enforce them, people are going to find a way to protect themselves. A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. This quote was originally sourced from a Washington Post interview of Oct 16, 2006. In any case, he seems to be OK with handguns for self-defense, and long guns for hunting, but he does not think you or I need an "assault" rifle. And he seems to imply that since the need is in his view illegitimate, that it is therefore OK to eliminate them from private ownership.

I think that the fact that he owns no firearms at all - which is of course his constitutional right not to - that he has no vested interest in halting the creeping eradication of the same. Consequently, he is squishy on it. In my humble opinion, that makes him less than ideal as a candidate for the RNC chair. But, I am guessing that he will keep his position, partly as a sop to the "progressive" wing of the party, and partly as a sop to race baiters who are made ridiculous when the party they accuse of racism is chaired by a black man.

But that's just my perception. Your mileage may vary.
