Just curious, has anyone ever used a hipoint 9mm for idpa? It's the only pistol I have at the moment and I'm really excited to try idpa. I just don't wanna go and be embarrassed cuz of malfunctions( although it has never jammed at the range). Soon enuf I will get a much ncer weapon but this willhave to do for now. Any thoughts or reccomendations?

From what (little) I understand, Hi-Points are "low cost", but not junk. There's no reason to be embarrassed if the gun works for you.

Go for it! The high$$$$$ equipment crowd may giggle but, once you shoot and show them what it will do they'll stop.

Everything I have heard about HPs indicates they are pretty reliable pistols.

For other low cost options I'd go with some of the 9x18 guns, for IDPA the CZ-82 would be especially nice since it is the largest and highest capacity of the group (the others all hold less than 10 rounds).

I have been shooting IDPA weekly, and I have never seen anyone look down on others because they are shooting Hipoint, Taurus, Bersa, ect. ,IDPA was formed to get AWAY from the $6,000 race guns.

The reverse is actually true, if your shooting a Glock and it stovepipes/double feeds/FTE, you are sure to hear "that couldn't have happened, it's a Glock"

Go for it. When I first started IDPA, I qualified shooting a Sigma. No-one else cares what gun you choose.

We have a man who shoots USPSA once in awhile and uses a Highpoint. It runs..thats what counts...people look at it, but it runs and did not cost a ton of $$.

IDPA rules state that the minimum caliber to be used is 9x19 , So I would stick to the high point for now untill you can afford something better.

Go. Be safe. Have fun. If you do that, most people don't care how much your gun cost.

I didn't realize that, thanks for the correction. Bummer though, since it is a good round with good guns and all fairly affordable.

Don't worry about gun snobs. I don't think you will run into many folks like hat anyway. Generally a good group of like minded folks that will welcome you and help you. Just be safe and have fun. I don't mind someone running any of my guns if they are trying to decide on a purchase. I'll even provide ammo if needed. I'm not the exception. Most are just like me.

Glad to hear your HiPoint is working for you! I have a Stallard JS-9. I shoot 2 rounds and then I resort to throwing the gun at the target!!!

Don't laugh it's heavy and I sure wouldn't want to get hit by it!!!
