So yesterday, this friend of mine came over and asked me to help him sell three of his guns to raise money for something else he needed. We got two of them sold here — a Glock 19, and a Benelli Nova 12 gauge.

I bought the third gun for myself — a S&W15-22. What a little jewel of a plinker! I love this thing, and I haven't even had a chance to shoot it yet.

The rifle came with a bipod, a cheap BSA red dot sight, a green laser with remote switch pad, three 25 round magazines, and a brick of Winchester ammo. The gun has had three mags of ammo run through it, and it looks brand new. My friend took really good care of his guns. I paid $500 for it, which was the NIB price without the extras, and there was no sales tax since it was a FTF; so the price might have been a tad high, but the money went to a good cause for a really nice guy, so I don't mind.

Anyway, if anybody else has one of these things and has any insights to share, I'd like to hear them.

Eventually I want a semiauto plinker to go along with my custom 10/22 target rifle and my 9422 lever gun. I'm between one of these and building another 10/22 into a rimfire M1A SOCOM clone.

Picked one up last summer, have shot it twice now, about 150 rounds through it without a hicup.
It's the only AR style rifle i've shot so getting the right sight picture and adjusting the sights (adjustable iron sights) have been a challenge to me, any tips would be helpful.

Two addenda:

1. I just got a text from the original owner. The rifle DID come with iron sights. He just doesn't know where he put them, but he's looking for them. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Assuming the sights operate like standard AR-15 A2 style sights (never actually shot this particular gun). Here are few basics

* Use the rear sight to adjust windage only, don't adjust elevation with rear for zeroing purposes - only for bullet drop compensation (which I assume will be off with a .22LR vs. 5.56mm anyway)
* Use front sight to adjust for elevation until you're zeroed, then leave it alone (get a sight adjustment tool - much easier than using tip of a 5.56mm bullet)
* Once you'r zeroed, adjust elevation for different target ranges with rear sight
* If it has typical flip apertures on rear, zero the sights using the smaller diameter - and use this aperture for all your precision shooting and distance shooting. Use the wider aperture only for short range - out to 100 yards for 5.56mm, but maybe only 25 yards with .22LR depending on how precise you're trying to be at further distances.

Looks like a fun gun! One of these days, I'd like at get an AR style .22, or possibly just a .22 upper for the AR I already have.

Originally, I had the same thought. It's just that this opportunity presented to me, and I decided to go ahead and snap it up. I'm glad I did. I understand that simply using a conversion kit doesn't produce very good accuracy, but I don't have any personal experience one way or the other, although I've had experience with other .22 rifles.

One of those is high on my want list right now. I figure it would be a lot of fun and a great way to introduce wife to the AR platform.

I've had one for many months now. I tried shooting it with iron sights and decided I'm just too old (or inexperienced) for that. I added a cheap scope and finally got a chance to sight it in and do some plinking. Me and some of my buddies had a blast with it. My only complaint is that the trigger is very rough - I can deal with heavy, but not the roughness. I've been meaning to see if there is anything available aftermarket or if I need to find a gunsmith (or make a trip to see my brother in Colorado).

Great gun. We have had ours for a little while now and the whole family has a blast with this one. Probably have a couple thousand through ours. You certainly didn't go wrong with this one. You will enjoy. Have fun!

Are they as difficult to clean as an AR-15? He asks as he trudged out to garage to clean the AR he shot today ...

While its not a spiffy as yours I did pick up the new Mossberg Tactical .22. I picked it up for $169.00 from Gander Mountain last Black Friday. Its not as nice as your as it is mainly a plastic shell around a Mossberg Plinkster .22. But man i will tell you what... I took it to the Top Gun Range in Houston last week and went through 550 rounds of ammo and it was a BLAST! Also its the most commented and complimented firearm I have ever owned. Everyone that fires it wants one. Light almost no noise, zero recoil! I put a cheap reflex sight on it and it is great. Most fun I have had shooting in a long time. Now I just have to find some place to go where I can setup my own targets of cans and "stuff"!
