Magazine Carrier, Need Recommendations

I recently tried to do a practice reload with the spare mag stashed in my weak side pocket, took way to long to get out of pocket. So I need some recommendations on magazine carriers, I would prefer a leather one and don't mind paying for it. Just a few questions that maybe y'all can help with. I'm going to need one for my Glock 27 mag and another for my Officer size 1911 mag. I use a DeSantis OWB Double Magazine carrier for my Glock 22 Mags, but thats a little too much for EDC.

IWB or OWB?
If OWB, Vertical or Horizontal?
Any brands/styles to stay away from?

Thanks,
LHR

I've tried IWB mag pouches for both double-stack (Glock) and single stack (Walther PPS) mags and don't like them at all for either size. With the gun already in an IWB holster, just not enough room left in my pants for the mags too (I'm not exactly svelt :lol: ).

Don't yet own a 1911, so can't offer much help there - though the thin size indicates to me that a pocket knife pouch could possibly work.

For Glock mags, there are more OWB choices than you can shake a stick at. But don't discount kydex mag holders. Comp Tac and Bladetech are probably cream of the crop, but I've been impressed with the Blackhawk kydex holders that you can pick up for $20 at Academy - use them for IDPA.

I also have various sizes of Ripoffs brand pouches for different mags. Allows me to carry the mags in plain sight when carrying my gun tucked under my shirt in a Crossbreed or MTAC style tuckable IWB holster. http://www.ripoffs.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .... these pouches won't say they fit a specific mag, they're made for cell phones, tools, flashlights etc. But they list interior dimensions of each pouch so you can find one that works for you. I think this one #157 is what I use for medium and large Glock mags http://www.ripoffs.com/datasheets/co157/co157.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; For a G27 mag? I dunno, I just carry a G23 mag as backup when carrying my G27 but I think one like this #46 might work http://www.ripoffs.com/datasheets/co46/co46.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or perhaps #35 http://www.ripoffs.com/datasheets/co35/co35.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Base Pro sells knife/tool puches that work great. although the strap is not supper sturdy. I've used them in the past especially if I had to go IWB tuckable. They cost about $5 or $6

Knife/tool pouches are great mag carriers for discrete carry. I like the Blackhawk pouches for owb with cover. All my leather pouches save one were made by a local leather worker the one odd one is a Don Hume product. The Fobus paddle mag carriers are good but a bit large.

Has a sturdy steel clip on the back.

Also comes in a double mag model.

I use an old leather knife pouch for my extra mag clip. I carry a .380 to work and only have 7 rounds in my p232, so I definitely carry an extra mag. Even when I tuck my shirts in and have the mag out, no one has ever asked about it either.
