Ok, it's getting to be tax time and I should be getting a nice refund this year. I need help/advice.
I will have some cash set aside for a new gun... enough for a SCAR 17S. Presently, I own a Remington 700 PSS and an M1A Scout Squad (all in .308). I absolutely love both of them.
So on the table is a FN SCAR 17S vs. "other" (optics, cans, etc)... so do I really need another .308? I'll be honest with you though, this thing is sweet! I want it! But, do I NEED it?
I am not sure about you guys... I always tell myself that I have enough and that I won't get anything else... then I start searching (just for fun) and then all bets are off - after I start drooling.
What are your opinions/thoughts on the rifle?

No you do not need it. You are lusting for a new rifle. Wait until price comes down to $700 or so.

need it but if you have the cash and want it, do it.

The 17s will never come down to $700, I seriously doubt it will ever fall below $2000.

If I could buy any semi-auto .308, that would be the one.

the 17s is a great all purpose rifle, but I don't think it does any one thing well.
If you want a long range simi-auto .308, look at the FN AR
If you want a great all purpose rifle, and really like the feel of the 17s, get that.

Looks like he's already got a long range .308 in the 700 PSS. And a good semi-auto in the M1A. I think the SCAR is a good mix between the two.
Problem with the FNAR is that its too heavy and akward for much more than bench rest shooting. If the guy in the video was shooting an FNAR, he would not have been able to hold it up for the 1:00 long video.

I recently got a 16s and it is a well built rifle. There is a lot of adjustability built into the stock and the rails re very well done. The piston sytem seems to really reduce the felt recoil. It groups tight and threw all the empties within a 4 inch circle, seriously. I know you mentioned a 17s but it is pretty much the same rifle and I highly recommend it. I doubt I will get another AR. FYI mine was $2250 FTF with 5 pmags and factory cardboard box.

Where did you get your 16S? What kind of optics did you put on it? What do you like best about it? What do you like least about it?...

Texasguntrader.com. No optics yet, debating the Nikon M223 series, I hate to put a cheap NCStar on it. I currently am waiting on my barrel, I sent it out to be SBR (10.5") and threaded for my self built suppressor. I havent found anything I dont like about it yet, well maybe the grip will get changed. I am partial to the Falcon Ergo grip. Best is the build quality and way it clusters empties and on the target. I can post pics if you like. Shop claims to be shipping my barrel tomorrow (received 11/29/10) but has claimed that before. I have a leupold sitting around collecting dust but it is more of a hunting scope to me.

I have handled on several times back to back with an M1A, FNAR, and SCAR 16. I feel that is extremely well built and balanced. Not heavy at all in comparison. And from that video it looks like the softest shooting .308 I have seen. I say get it and try it out if it does something better than your other two the ditch them...

If you want a truly interesting modern .308 semi auto, have you looked at the
Kel-Tec RFB?

Sub-MOA with match ammo, 2 MOA with cheap import 147 grain ball. Uses FAL magazines. Costs $1800 instead of $3000.

Just a thought...

Kel-tec's built quality and FN's build quality have GOT to be light years apart I would think.
