Foam (for custom gun case)

Does anyone know where I can find foam that is gives just enough, but not too much. I am thinking of what surrounds the gun in this picture.

(I think this is the same kind of foam that computers sometimes ship in.)

I am looking for blocks that I can cut myself for custom storage solutions.

Thanks in advance!

That site also sells hot wire cutters for foam. Or you could make one yourself.

A little pricey, but it looks like what I need. Thanks.

You might try a company called Uline. They sell packing materials.

Hit up your local craft store. Hobby Lobby* has a big selection of foam products. If they do not have what you want, I'd bet someone working there could point you in the right direction. Also, you can get a hot-wire knife there for about $30--much safer than trying make your own.

*I do not work for Hobby Lobby, however, I do like the store. Mainly because they are closed on Sunday!

You may want to check with a camera store and get some pick and pack foam. It works well but is pricey

#036A2x3 Armorfoam 3 Sheets 2"x14"x22" appears to be what I am looking for at this store, but it is quite expensive.

This also looks like the material I want, it is cheaper, and I get more. However I'm not too thrilled about the perforations.

I've been to Hobby Lobby (I love that store), Michael's, UPS, Fed-Ex, and some computer stores; none had the stuff.

Good Idea about checking camera stores.

Thank you all for your suggestions!

These are the 2 I've used. The closest I've found to the foam that Pelican uses in their rifle cases is this: http://www.foambymail.com/CharcoalFoam.html

I've got a 72x80 piece of the 2" that I have not got around to cutting yet.

If you need a cutter, I've got mine that you can borrow if you like.

PERFECT! :cheers2:

I was able to cut softer foam from Hobby Lobby with my very sharp knife easily. I figure I can probably do the same for the Charcoal Foam. If not, I'll probably make my own "hot knife" :-) I find those kind of challenges fun, and I wouldn't want to inconvenience you by borrowing anything.

Not an inconvenience at all. If it was, I would not have offered. Take a look at AR15.com for a long, really good thread on gun cases. They've also got a schematic of the wiring for building your own cutter. Here is the link: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b ... 695&page=1 *Edited to remind aboout the language on that site.*
