Effective range 9mm carbine?

I am wanting to build a 9mm carbine either AR or buy an MP5 clone. What do you guys/gals think the effective/accurate range of a 9mm out of a say a 10" barrel would be? Without too much hold over...I am wanting to maybe shoot out to 200yds and hit man size target consistently. Just wanting to know if that is feasible?

I don't think you'd have much stopping power with a 9mm at 200yds, even if you were on-target. Maybe enough to put a hole in paper, but not in a bad guy that had clothes on.

I understand I am not going to knock anything down at this range with a 9mm but was just wondering if it is possible to ring steel at 200yds with 9mm consistently anyway. Thanks for the kel-tec manual reference. :tiphat:

I recently heard of a fellow board member getting "dings" out to 150yds with a 10.5 inch 9mm AR...which I didn't think could be done, so that's impressive. :cheers2:

You should be able to hit a sandbag-sized (torso size) target out to 300 yards quite easily.

That'll just make em mad

By that chart, if I'm reading it corrrectly, it appears that you'd be a little under 30" low and have just under 400 Ft Lbs of energy left at 200 yards...

At 200 meters it would have as much energy as a .380 at 200 milimeters. "rlol"

I was tailgating on day when I met a guy that just survived being shot by a Bersa 380. Wife found out he was cheating went to the bar and unloaded the whole mag on him. Not one round penetrated his body. Just had bruises. That's why I carry Ranger 9mm +p+ ammo

That's either one incredibly tough dude or his kevlar underwear was worth every penny.

A failure to stop with a .380? No problem.

A failure of a full magazine of rounds fired from close range to penetrate to skin? Uh - uh.
