I bought this Mossberg 500 from my brother last summer. he got it at Academy for around 300. it was on sale. I bought it from him for 170.00 a couple months later, never shot. he didnt want it anymore(He's 18, go figure). I've been wanting to get some tactical stuff for it for a while, just finally did. I really like it.

I also bought a TAPCO Sling(for carrying in the woods) just waiting on the swivel(should be here tuesday) once the sling is on it will look even better.

looks nice, i recently went "tactical" on my Remington 870... AR-style buttstock, three-side picatinny rail forend with vertical grip, 18" barrel, magazine extension. best part is it fits perfectly in my guitar case, so i can keep it next to the bed without visitors/friends seeing it and saying "oh my, what do you need something like that for?"

I like it. My 500 was a gift to me when I was 12 or 13, and was a hunting gun. It had the 28" barrel, wood stock and wood fore end. I put the same ATI 6 position collapsible butt stock on it, along with the round carrier, and a synthetic fore end with a vertical fore grip, and mounted a flashlight to the rail with a pressure switch on the fore grip. I also had to cut the barrel down. The end result is similar to yours, only with the addition of the flashlight and the fore grip.

do you have a recommendation for a good heat shield? i've been looking around fand the ones i've found so far have received bad reviews (they were cheapies on amazon though). i found one that claims to have ghost ring sights on it, but every review said it was a piece of junk.

If you're going for aesthetics than do as you wish with regard to stickers and what not - have fun with it.

If there is a utility aspect to the weapon, then I think a light might be a great add. Also - I'd be worried about stickers melting and getting jammed in something after repeated firing. Our Benellis at work are setup with tritium ghost ring sights which are great at night - I've novice shooters place lethal hits at 50 yds with buck and slugs - in nighttime ambient light shooting. Must have if you're weapon light goes down.

Looks nice.

On the side saddle I would flip the first 2 shells over for "Combat Reloads" That way you can grab the shell weak hand, bring it over the top and feed the open chamber (not the tube) and rack it shut.

After a few dozen rounds the sticker will be permanently mounted :) The stickers usually go on the tube of the shotgun, as that does not get hot and melt the stickers.

My Mossberg 500 came with a heatshield from the factory but I'm guessing it's the same as these:

OH, one other option that is very tacticool (also very practical) is a sling that holds shells. I think Blackhawk makes one that holds 15 rounds.

I thought the stickers on shotgun barrels were for marketing purposes :) Kinda like the stickers that come on new TVs. You're supposed to remove them after purchasing, right?

What if you just wear the sling like a bandoleer?? Of course, I'd need a sombrero as well....

For one I like the sticker. However I removed it after taking these photos because it would melt off after firing multiple rounds(about to shoot it). But if it's going to be a HD shotgun and stay in the bedroom (e.g. An inside gun) it can look nice. In the event it does have to be fired for HD one shot won't make it melt off and if it's a situation where you fire multiple rounds the last thing your going to be worried about is a sticker on the barrel. However I can see it getting jammed in the forend. Probably not the best place for a sticker. I don't personally like the way heat shields look.

Tacticool, yes - practical, not really.

The weight swinging around like a loose pendulum under the shotgun makes it more dificult to keep the muzzle on-target; it's unbalanced and it's really difficult to pull shells from a loose and wildly moving sling. An ammo-belt around the waist is more stable and more practical than ammo in a sling.

I didnt get a "bandolier" sling I agree with AndyC I thought getting one of those movie style slings would be more cumbersome than practical. Besides the gun itself holds 16+1 if I've got a problem that 17 rounds can't take care of it's time to start praying! 

I want to mount a flashlight but I could use some suggestions on good mounts.
