I was getting my car washed yesterday in Southlake when two Southlake LEO's brought their car in to be washed. I was standing around and they looked fairly happy so I decided to engage them in conversation about traffic stops. Since I'm just about to get my CHL I'm still very interested in how various LEO's handle their traffic stops with CHL'ers. They were very jovial yet professional. Told me that they feel like 90% of Texas is armed with as many CHL holders as they pull over. The officer that spoke the most told me that he basically doesn't do anything except just tell the driver to keep their hands where he can see them and to find out where the weapon it but that's it.

We then talked about what they carry off duty etc..

It's nice to have a good interaction with LEO's other than getting pulled over. Kudo's to Southlake.

I have learned that not all officers know all the rules concerning all aspects of concealed carry nor of carrying in a school parking lot nor correct postings, but most like to know that the folks they are dealing with at a stop have been previously, and recently, checked by the state and feds. It's no guarantee of their personal safety, but it helps. Cops work hard for their communities and we all want them to go home safely at the end of their shifts.

The only time I've been pulled over (overdue inspection sticker) since I moved to Texas, it was by Southlake PD. Showed both IDs, he asked if I was armed and where it was. I told him. He told me to not put my hands near it, told me he would be right back, and then walked back to his car. He returned with the ticket (no grace there ) and wished me a good day. It wasn't that big of a deal.
