I am looking for one of the Blackhawk nylon holsters. The barrel length of my Sig Pro 2022 is 3.9" according to Wikipedia. The holster I have for it now that I am replacing is a "size 02, 4" Barrel Medium and Intermediate Double Action Revolvers". It is a little to long, but fits good otherwise.

I am trying to figure out what size to get to replace it. The options are:

01: 3"-4" Barrel Medium autos
02: 4" Barrel Medium and Intermediate Double Action Revolvers
06: 3 3/4" - 4 1/2" Barrel Large Autos

I like the one I have now, but I would like a strap on it to prevent it from falling out accidentally. Should I juts get the same size again, or would one of the others be more appropriate.

Honestly, I wouldn't spend the money on the nylon type holsters. Instead, I would buy a leather or kydex or leather/kydex hybrid holster purpose made for your gun. I certainly wouldn't use a holster designed to carry a revolver for use in carrying a semiauto.

There are a number of reasonably priced and well made holsters out there for well under $100. It's kind of like the difference between trying to skate by with a regular belt, and buying a belt that was intended for supporting the weight of a gun. There is no comparison, and you'll be far happier with a properly designed product. Those nylon holsters just aren't up to the task for any kind of long term usage.

I do own one of the speed scabbards, although I don't use it anymore because I no longer own the pistol I bought it for. But I can verify that, for the price, these are very well made holsters. There are other great holsters by other great manufacturers, and you can expect to pay in the $60 to $80 range. You can easily spend more, but since you're looking at the nylon holsters I assume that your are price conscious. Believe me, you're throwing money away if you buy one of those things. They are fine if you are talking about having a "field expedient" solution to carrying a gun once in a great while, but if you are considering anything remotely approaching daily carry, you will be much MUCH happier with a decent, reasonably priced, leather holster that was designed to fit your specific gun.

I have a Crossbreed Supertuck on it's way to me now, but I occasionally open carry on my own property or while riding my ATV. I am looking for a nylon holster for that. I am not going to wear it enough to justify an expensive holster.

But if you get a holster that has either a snap or a velcro closure on it,
you will telegraph your draw to the world, including the BG, when you undo
it to commence your draw.

If you get a leather or Kydex holster made for your gun, it may have enough
natural friction to hold the gun in, and you can have a quiet draw if needed.

My preferred holster is a Bianchi Carry-Lok 82, which has an ingenious device
which holds the gun securely in the holster by attaching to the trigger guard of
the pistol, but also allows a quiet draw if needed.

Your Sig Pro 2022 doesn't appear to be on the list, but if you do some further
digging around on their site, or call them, you may be able to find a similarly
good deal.

I'll take this occasion to thank austinrealtor, since he was the one who pointed
out this great holster to me.

When I am openly carrying, I am not as worried about 2 legged predators as I am 4 legged ones. We see hog tracks on every ride and frequently see wild hogs or packs of dogs. I usually ride in a group of no less than 6 people. If an animal (however many legs) is charging me, sees or hears me pull my gun and decides to retreat, that is fine with me. I am sure we will not hang around long enough for them to change their mind and come back.

There are also at least 2 other riders in our group that carry. Iwb carry is not really an option for an all day ride on an atv. The only other option is storing it in a bag somewhere. That will take even longer to reach for and be more obvious, imo.

There are some times when open carry, or at least underneath an untucked shirt or jacket is the better option.
So, as far as barrel length, should I be going with the 3"-4" holster or the 3 3/4" - 4 1/2". The one I am looking at is the "Nylon Hip Holster with Thumb Break" by Blackhawk. I would be open to other suggestions of similarly priced holsters, but I would prefer the nylon type design of this one. It does not stand out like a leather holster would and could easily be mistaken for a cell phone holster.

Aaaahhh, OK, that makes more sense. You're going to like that Supertuck. I have an MTAC, which is very similar, and they are comfortable for IWB.

Just curious... why not mount a long gun scabbard on your ATV and carry something with a lot more grunt (and range) than a pistol when you see those pesky hogs?

I got enough stuff already on my quad. I don't need another "accessory" for it. They are big and bulky and restrict entrance from one side. I also know that I would not carry if I had to depend on that. More trouble than it is worth unless I am going out specifically for shooting.

I did try carrying one in the past, but it would get water and sand in it. If I am going across a creek or through some mud, I can quickly put my Sig in a 1 gallon zip-lock bag. That is not an option with a rifle or shotgun, or at least not an easy one.
