After reading the article, I think the little twirp needed this LONG ago!
FROM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS:
DENVER – The staff at the Colorado elementary school said no one could calm 8-year-old Aidan Elliott.
He had just thrown a TV and chairs and was now trying to use a cart to bust through a door to an office where teachers had taken some young students for safety.
They called the police.
The officers found him with a foot-long piece of wood trim with a knife-like point in one hand and a cardboard box in the other.

When asked about the pepper spray and what he did, Aidan said: "I kind of deserved it."
Maybe this shows that he has a conscience and some possibility of changing his behaviour. I sure hope that someone can find out why this child is acting so violent and can fix it.

No gripe from me as far as the actions of the LEO. I just hope that something can be done to prevent this child from getting more violent and anti-social. If he continues, the next time it might be a bullet rather than pepper spray.

I was thinking the same thing, pepper spray at 8...two in the chest at 18.
If someone doesn't do something with this kid soon......it will be too late (it might already be)

The police showed remarkable restraint.
Next time send the K9.

His comment that he deserved it, shows the only hope that he can save himself.
He's in a new school. What school would take him, he was already in the school for kids with problems and they were afraid of him.

Sadly, I'm not very optimistic. In the video:
Reporter: "Did you mean it when you said you wanted to kill them?"
Aiden: "A little."
Reporter: "This is the third time police have been called to the school because of Aiden's behavior. Don't you think that indicates there's some sort of problem?"
Mother: "I think there IS a problem, but it's with school and Aiden. I don't know what else there is for ME to do when I am not there to figure out what is causing the problems."
Even after calming down and rehearsing, the kid said he really did want to kill the teacher because school keeps him away from his mom. And the mother made every effort to avoid taking any kind of responsibility, pointing at the school as the problem.

So we just give up on problem children? I do not accept that. Certainly our society cannot accept that. But I must admit, I am beginning to wonder, when I see things like Austin's thinking on funding mental health programs.
The good news: veterinarians can apparently now use pepper spay rather than surgery.

No we don't give up on problem children, we raise them correctly so that they are not problem children. If he has a mental dysfunction he needs to be in a place that is well equipped to handle these type cases. Personally I don't think this is the case here. I think this is a case of (liberal) mommy knows best.
I have 4 kids. I have NEVER had to deal with problems like this. But then again they were raised with two hands: One loving and one ready to disipline.
The good news: veterinarians can apparently now use pepper spay rather than surgery.

Not sure I understand this reference.
But MAYBE now that Mr. 8 year old has tasted pepperspray, he might think twice before pulling his bologna again! (it's a shame it had to come to that...They should pepper spray the parents as well)

I have not figured out a way of answering your question without letting my possibly weird sense of humor appear to insult either you or someone else. I did not mean to, and I cannot bring myself to do that.
