Hello everyone, just curious if anyone has any thoughts on the new shotgun (ksg) being manufactured by kel tec. I am usually leary of being an early adopter and like to go over multiple reviews of a gun before I decide to purchase it. But I don't know I am kinda excited about this and might have to preorder this one.
What is everyone's impression about the ksg?

I don't think it has made it to production status yet, last I heard Kel-Tec was redesigning the trigger mechanism so that you wouldn't have to release the trigger prior to operating the pump action. On the pre-production models holding the trigger while cycling the pump would result in a dead trigger which would require that you cycle the pump again in order to make the gun serviceable.

Yea I heard about that. I was one of the major issues at shot show. On their website video they say that have resolved this and other issues. At least they where quick at addressing this complaint.

They are still saying it will still be available 3rd quarter to the end of the year 2011. Maybe I can make it a Christmas present to my self :biggrinjester:

What is the general consensus on Kel Tec rifles? I was thinking about buying the SUB-2000 or the SU-16A just keep in my truck.

In the past, Kel-Tec has been the punching bag of the gun world, but the last 3 or 4 years they've worked hard to produce guns that are not only innovative, but are also being praised for their overall design and apparent reliability (I say "apparent" because the RFB, KSG, and PMR-30 are too new to have a reliability track record like 1911's or Glocks).

Do the Google thing and you'll find lots of reviews, most are in high praise.

One thing I'm learning about Kel-Tec - they definitely listen to input from the shooting community. The KSG is a good example.

I have 4 KT firearms, including the SU16A

Mine all work fine. The SU16A is my trunk gun when we take a trip. I like the mag storage in the butt. Rifle and 80 rounds in a padded 20x10 case.

I own a sub2000 in 9mm, great little gun add in a few 33rd glock magazines and it becomes a whole lot of fun.

There are versions that work with most popular pistol models: Glock 17/19, S&W59, Beretta 92, SIG 226

I have a Remington 870 express magnum. Which is a great shotgun but the barrel is way to long for house defense. I would have to get a shorter barrel and have a gunsmith do some modification to increase the capacity. All in all I am guessing it would cost be around 4 to 5 hundred dollars. The msrp on the ksg quoted to be 800 but the actual price could be around 650. If that holds true then I think it may be worth it to shell out the extra money and have a whole new gun that has what I am looking for in a hd gun.

I don't think I'd call that "most popular pistol models". I think a more accurate statement would be "most common LEO-standard full-sized pistol models". Of those models, two (the Beretta and S&W) aren't particularly common in civilian use. Compatibility with 1911, XD, M&P mags would come much closer to covering most popular full-sized pistols.

My main carry gun is a Hi-Power, which is one of the reasons I haven't gotten around to the Sub2000. It's a fun gun to shoot, especially for the cost, but the lack of mag compatibility means I'd have to go out and buy mags specifically for the carbine, and there would be none of the convenient sharing of magazines that makes the Sub2000 such a cool idea.

You don't have to spend that much to make it a good home defense weapon. I have a 40 year old Wingmaster. There are mag extensions for 2-3 extra rounds for under $70. Often you can find an old barrel for not much money, like where someone changed to a vent rib, or had some rust and replaced the barrel. You can then just cut it down to 18.25", smooth the cut and add a little cold blue. Get an aftermarket fiberoptic sight and you are good to go. Barrels are easy to change. I added a top folding stock and a composite forestock and didn't spendover $175. Got it all off the internet. All modifications are easy to do.

Plus I still have all the original parts so if I need a great hunting gun, I have one for about 10 minutes work.

Many folks recommend that using the original type stock is a good idea. I believe that to be the case in many instances. Just tuck it in between arm and side to reduce felt recoil for those who might be sensitive to it.

Good luck. You cannot beat them for that purpose.
