As those of you who read my earlier post (The problem with gun shows...) know, I just bought my first shotgun. I took it to the range yesterday and shot it. I learned the hard way that my stance was all wrong - I feel like I've been hit in the shoulder with a baseball. After I came back home and watched some videos on Youtube, I think I have it sorted out. We'll see how it goes next range trip.

But that ain't what this post is about!

I want to buy some dummy shells to practice rapid loading while at home for muscle-memory training. I found two sources:
Brownells sells Brownells brand, 25 of them for $25 or 5 for $8.
Able Ammo has Fiocchi, $15 for 25.
Neither of these prices include shipping.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these dummy rounds? Is there any reason one might be better than the other? Can anyone offer any alternatives? Thanks in advance.

I had a few Pachmyr blue 12ga "snap cap" types. Worked very well until the end broke off one. They were really handy for training/refresher stuff. Of course all the standard stipulations apply: I made sure ALL live ammo was secured in an area out of reach, verified safe direction of muzzle, etc, etc...

As a matter of fact, they were a great help in teaching my sons the fundamentals of pump shotgun usage prior to heading to the range for some live fire.

Can't remember what I paid for them, but the prices on your post beat what i paid by a significant margin. Let me know how they work out when you get them.

They work well for me. Mine are also considerably more expensive than what you've linked to. These were around $10 for a box of two.

I have a set of those (A zoom) and they work nice. The dummy rounds from Brownells are weighted just like a shot shell and are generally used to practice reloading etc. The 3Gun guys use Brownells dummy rounds for dry fire practice.

The Brownells brand is a good price and I don't think they would put their name on junk. I suggest buying more than you think you need (especially at a buck or two a pop) because the plastic will wear over time, from the extractor, from hitting the ground, etc. I have some of the old Pachmayr ones that show their age.

I made my own more than 30 years ago. used #8 shot, wad and no powder, instead used oatmeal as a filler. I trimmed a small pencil eraser for the primer pocket. Works well and a lot cheaper for me.

I don't reload, so I guess I'll go with the ones from Brownells. Thanks for the input, gentlemen.

I use the Fiochi for loading practice, work just fine.
Tip, remove your tube end cap, spring and follower, as you load the dummies just fall out the end, no need to unload each time, just pick em up

However, I couldn't help but chuckle over the clown zombie targets under their new inventory link!

If you weren't afraid of clowns you would be after seeing that.

Thanks for the info. I had made some to practice for 3 gun. However, the weight was not right. Mine are too light and they tend to flip around a lot more than the real thing. Guess they do make for good malfunction clearing drills.

i have the ones from brownells on your first link. they seem to work fine for me.i bought them since i never had a shotgun before and i didnt want to practice loading and unloading with live rounds.
