Point of order, sir, but could the distinguished senator from Houston please educate the rest of the legislature regarding which specific section of either the US or Texas Constitution mandates that poor people be paid a "fair wage" to serve their civic duty on a jury?

You know, its that stretchy rubber band part of the Constitution which politicians have taken to mean that the constitution says and protects whatever they call a right, be that to free Popsicles or all the booze pelosi wants on her private jets.

Unskilled and skilled labor are paid the same when they serve on juries, so the financial impact of lost wages is greater for the middle class skilled labor than for unskilled poor people. That should make Ellis happy.
