You know that was actually scripted to be a big fight scene?
Harrison Ford was sick that day and apparently in no mood for it. He pulled the pistol and pretended to fire it as a joke. The swordsman played along and fell down. Everybody liked it so they kept it and added the smoke and the BANG in post production.
